Then why were Democrats so unwilling to put forward a resolution condemning anti-Semitism? If they were really concerned about a Hitler taking over, they didn't help matters by refusing to condemn the demonization of Jews. |
Sorry, I was voice dictating and it double posted. |
Because you are conflating two different things. Democrats are against anti-Semitism. But they are also against the Hitler type of person who is in control right now and doing Hitler type things. Trump is a figure right now who has very similar tendencies and actions to trump. Also, a lot of Democrats understand the delineation between criticism of Israel’s government for its treatment of Palestinians which is not anti-Semitism. You can be pro Israel and pro Jewish, but also be very alarmed at how Israel’s government continues to take Palestinian land, hold Palestinians in ghettos that are walled off, have totally prevented a two state solution and generally act belligerently to a subservient population. |
That is the most over wrought righteous indignation I think I’ve seen on this thread. There are completely valid comparisons between trump and hitler. Stop trying to tell us we can’t talk about it. |
^^ I thought this was a great esssy by a Holocaust historian - he points out similarities and differences with a lot of supporting facts. Please read if you haven’t already. |
Trump supporters would rather show indignation over the obvious than to actually read and learn. |
• President Donald Trump told reporters: "We are closely following the terrible events unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides. It has been going on for a long time in our country -- not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. It has been going on for a long, long time. It has no place in America." This is what was actually said. People need to push the narrative he's xenophobic in order to advance their own. Look on any social media site for Trump supporters of every color, religion, sexual and gender preference under the sun. I am pro-choice and those people have been praying outside clinics on public property since I can remember. Just like that guy who stood outside the Vatican Embassy and peacefully protested for years. What concerns me is people's ability to suspend their own eyes and ears to help push a fake narrative. For goodness sake, John Podesta said to use the Nazi narrative in his e-mails that were hacked. We know it is a just another political ploy to make people fear their government because you lost an election when your candidate couldn't get herself to a few states. |
PP here. The quote is attributed to Chris Cillizza and CNN. |
“Racism is evil and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups,” Trump said.
- Zeke Miller |
That’s some top shelf historical revisionism there. What actually happened is Trump waffled back and forth over the course of a week on the issue. He had to gauge how his supporters would feel if he actually condemned these confederate supporting white supremacists. He literally vacillated back and forth on the entire situation. He did not show a determined and force for condemnation of the actions at the time they happened. He said there are very fine people on both sides. He was trying to play both sides of the equation because he knew he couldn’t alienate his supporters. The Republican Party has become the party of Trump. And that party strongly associated with xenophobia and fear of others. Sadly it also comprises a large portion of ignorant folks who miss the great days is when the south and and everything that goes along with that was in power. I know it’s very hard for you people supporting Trump to look inwardly at yourselves and what the party supports but it’s very very alarming. It’s so fear-based. |
“The President said very strongly in his statement yesterday that he condemns all forms of violence, bigotry, and hatred,” the statement said. “Of course that includes white supremacists, KKK Neo-Nazi and all extremist groups. He called for national unity and bringing all Americans together.”
Also from a Zeke Miller article. |
You mean he clarified his statement within 48 hours. Gimme a minute...I'll find the reports scrum notes. |
Which Charlottesville speech was that? The first one? The second? The third? Was it the one that David Duke gushed over? https://www.cnn.com/2017/08/15/politics/donald-trump-david-duke-charlottesville/index.html |
Here's an article from Politico staff on 8/15/17
https://www.politico.com/story/2017/08/15/full-text-trump-comments-white-supremacists-alt-left-transcript-241662 You read into it through your filter and I read it using mine. Further, as friends sat around with concerns for Israel, Trump was there supporting the country against the threats being made against its existence. Do you think Hitler would do that? Really? People are pouring into the country and our generous local governments are oversaturated. It is a horrible situation for all. |
David Duke and Farrakhan are the people the FBI should have been focusing on instead of the President for two g-d years. |
