How will Wootton or RM be affected by new high school in Crown Farm?

If people from the outside keeping moving into Mo Co b/c it looks so shiny, boundaries will keep shifting.

just sayin'

Exactly. The main reason most fight for boundaries is not the school, but the home values. No one wants to watch close to 6 figures in equity slip away.

I wouldn’t want to buy a home in n area that may be rezoned. You could be upside down on your house. Who wants that.

The entire King Farm will move to Gaithersburg
Dufief and Fields will be moving to Crown
A good chunk of FARMS from Gaithersburg will be moving to Crown and maybe some to QO

All of MCPS could be rezoned. The BoE and MCPS do not, and should not, make decisions about education based on your property values, or anybody else's property values.

Also, there are not a lot of farms in Gaithersburg, and they don't go to high school. Perhaps you are referring to students who qualify for free and reduced meals?

The W areas are keeping Mo Co afloat. Once you rezone for equity - and that's the real reason - property values go down and people move out of the area. Look at Urbana. It's "Mo Co North." Frederick County, baby!

It's only a matter of time before Mo Co implodes b/c the school system can't handle the changes.

So people with means will either move or go private.

If you want to move to Urbana, go right ahead. I hope you don't work in downcounty Montgomery County, Virginia, or DC, though. It's a lousy commute.

Sorry if Google maps gives different results (maybe real-time traffic factored into the results)....but that's not the main point anyway....the point is that is that Education seems to have failed to have considered, or maybe just not care, about the vast difference in actual commute times when you go through an urban area during busy times of the day versus a rural area.....8 miles across a rural area during rush hour obliviously is way better FOR THE KIDS than 12 miles across an urban area.
Thank you for listening.

Uh, no.

The jobs are to the south. That is all that matters to property values. Nobody is going to sell their home in Potomac or North Bethesda because some kids from Twinbrook get redistricted to Churchill, WJ or Whitman.

No they won't. As others have stated, not many people are going to move further north into Frederick County and risk a hellish commute. Likewise, with the increases in private school tuition not many people can easily afford spending $80k a year on private school tuition for 12 years.

It will implode because of the massive influx of poor illegal immigrants and because of it's liberal views of "more money!" but does nothing as a county to acquire said money. All they do is beg the state for more when the state only funds about 20% of the MCPS funding.

In the meantime, let's start sending the refugees to the W schools instead of the poorer schools. Instead of shoving them in HUB apartments, give them some rental homes available in those clusters instead of adding more FARMS and ESOL to clusters that are drowning. Let's see how that works out for the county. We all know they know better. They send them to the average lower income clusters because those families hands are tied and can not move out. They leave the rich in their bubble since 75% of MC taxes come from the left side of 270. They know where their bread is buttered.

There has been white flight in MC going to Howard, NOVA and DC for years. As Howard and Nova get wealthier and DC gets wealthier and whiter, MCPS gets darker and poorer. This is exactly what happened to PG county in the 80/90's. They had white flight to Calvert and MC. And now they currently have middle-income black flight. It has become more and more poor as the years go on. This is exactly what is happening to MCPS. People moving out to DC, NOVa, Howard, and Frederick. Changing the demographics drastically.

The Census actually tracks migration, in and out. Have you looked at the data? If not, what information are you basing your statement on?

I'm not familiar with any HUB apartments in Montgomery County. Where are they located?

hmm...this seems a bit dramatic. Mo Co's county-wide FARMS rate is only 30%. (PG's FARMS rate is 66%, for reference.) And their ESOL rate is only 13%. As a county, they are not exactly being overrun by poor people or refugees. Even if the SES re-districting does something drastic like the Cambridge, MA version and says schools must target +/- 10% of the county average-schools like BCC would only go from 10% FARMS to 20% FARMS. Not sure you would see an impact on test scores from that alone. RM has a FARMS rate of about 20%, and its not the end of the world for that school (although maybe that could be just due to the IB program?)

Yah but there are schools like Kennedy, Blair, Einstein and Wheaton which are very poor with lots of ESOL vs Churchill and Whitman that aren't. There is absolutely white flight happening in Eastern MoCo. Like at the neighborhoods around Eastern Middle, They were white middle class not that long ago. Look at Flower and piney Branch must people walking the streets there don't speak much English. White Oak is a slum

Blair ESOL: 18%
Einstein ESOL: 17%
Wheaton ESOL: 21%

what a load of over-exaggeration. Maryland is the richest state in the country and majority of those rich folks live in MOCO. You act like we're Detroit. The issue isn't white flight. It's segregation.
