It's my money so I don't really understand why you care. No one is forcing any one to play for Madlax. Given the average income of most people with kids playing club lacrosse I this area the money wasn't a big deal.. We enjoyed to program we never had an issue with any of the coaches. |
Maybe some kids play lacrosse because they enjoy it. |
And let's be real. All private clubs exist to make money. This goes for all of the "A" programs as well. If you are looking at lacrosse or any sport for anything other than fun and enjoyment it a bad investment. |
Nah, they don't exist to make money. They exist because those involved love the sport. If you calculated what those coaches make on a per hour basis, I doubt it would be impressive. Also, let's be real, you get what you pay for. Travel team coaches (who get paid) are better than rec coaches (who don't get paid). If paying for better coaching outrages you, put your kid on a rec team and you're good to go. |
Not always. I've seen rec coaches that do a much better job of coaching lax than paid travel coaches. Have you seen the fall Madlax roster? One capital team has over 30 kids - what are you exactly paying for? |
Obviously it is your money, and your decision. If you and your kid(s) are happy playing for Madlax, excellent. This forum is about sharing opinions, and for parents new to the sport provide some transparency around the game, club teams, etc. Madlax is in the conversation cause they're an option in this area, and have fielded some very strong teams (i.e. 2019s). But if you're a new parent wondering about your son's play time, just peek at the rosters they posted: https://capital.madlax.com/18rosters. I glanced at the 2024 team roster and it looks like they have over 30 kids! 30! How many runs is your kid going to get with that many kids to cycle through on the sideline -- if they cycle at all. Good luck. |
I have yet to see that. Every rec coach I have seen, it's "daddyball". He may or may not know anything about lacrosse, but his main "qualification" is that his kid is on the team. In addition to that, when you play travel, you are playing with (and against) better players than in rec leagues. It makes your kid better to play with (and against) better players. Whether or not that is worth the money is up to you. |
Those rosters aren't accurate. There are several kids from just one of the teams that I am familiar with who have moved on to other clubs. Not sure why they are still listed on Madlax rosters. |
What's interesting is there is no Capital 2023 team. All those kids bolted. I would also if you bring in a team midyear and make my son's team a combo 22/23 B team.
Bet their credit cards get hit regularly still, though. |
There's a sucker born every minute....
W.C. "Mad Whack" Maddux |
So false advertising? |
Kind of. They put down everyone they've given an offer to (which is everyone). Everyone makes a team - either Capital or DMV. They don't bother to see if a kid actually accepted it. So that's why their lists includes a lot of kids who decided to play for other clubs. Madlax doesn't seem to mind the errors. |

Anyone know anything about VEL? |
It truly sucks. |
