Not a fan of DCE,but their 2022 team finished tied for 5th in the top league. That is not a bad effort.
And it's HoCo, lax dad |
There are only two divisions in NGLL so it certainly is not a calamity to be in B division. There are many club teams in the area who do not play NGLL at all because they know their teams will not be competitive. A good number of kids get recruited from B division. That said, Madlax girls have not been prepared for NGLL competition and their DMV 2023 team forfeited most of their games after a few blow out loses. |
Many 2021 DCE made the UA team |
Saw the new Madlax combo team of their 2022 B players and the remaining 2023 Capital players. It was sad. |
Madlax 2022 0-3 this weekend at crabfeast shocker. |
2024 DMV or caps? The DMV gets cavalier leftovers. Sorry. |
What club says that their existing top team isn't good enough, brings over a new team, and then combines their older A and younger AA team into a new team playing in B divisions? |
This isn't necessarily true. Some girls will go to MadLax if there's a chance to play a lot and be seen and to stand out. They also might go because it's a new club and they are sick of the politics at existing clubs. As a parent of a child who could make some of these top teams, the appeal of going to a club like Madlax is that when college coaches come to see the games (or when they watch film after the fact) you will be a feature. We have met with top D3 coaches (NESCAC) and they told us that athletes pop no matter what team they play with. They don't care who else you play with if you can demonstrate top skills. Ideally you want one or two other decent players to string together plays to make it fun - and MadLax should be able to do this over time. But winning teams have no bearing on individual girls being recruited and but if girls already play for a top high school that has a pipeline to colleges, then club isn't as critical. Time will tell whether they can put together a strong program but I wouldn't assume they won't. A few years ago Rebels was just starting and MC Elite was pretty much just Rockville Rec. |
There is at most one dc area girl per class year playing for Skywalkers and M&D. Most find a team closer to home. |
I know two M&D 2021 black players who both go to DC area privates and one 2020 as well. I’m sure there are more. Skywalkers maybe not. |
You are deluding yourself and you have highlighted the issue right there - college coaches won't be watching Madlax girls games for two reasons. 1) since the teams are terrible its unlikely they will have any great players (great players go to great clubs) and 2) they don't and won't go to the best tournaments where there are college coaches because they can't compete and/or won't get invited. Seriously you have to be out of your mind if your DD is any good at lacrosse to have her play for Madlax. First the owner is a complete a$$ and charges way more than any other club and, second, there are so many other better clubs (with decent folks as the owners or board members) that only the girls who cannot make one of those better teams would go to Madlax. |
Yes but, those clubs didn't have a jacka$$ as an owner. |
Why? The M&D teams tend to mostly girls from Howard and Baltimore counties, who tend to play for McDonogh or one of the Howard publics. DC grils are definitely the exception. |
The era of the Madlax Monopoly is over. MD teams DCE and Next Level are on the rise and convincing families that the trip over the river isn't worth it. VLC is expanding its youth program which eats away at Madlax's talent base. And the rest of the country is catching up fast. Teams in Ohio, TX, CA can compete with the DMV on the field and off it too if you count recruiting. Give it 10 years max, and you'll be saying Madlax who? |
NP and parent of 8th grade girl who plays on the B team of one of the area’s top MS clubs. My DS played for Madlax so we’d know what we’d be getting into if DD tries out for Madlax. No clue whether DD is good enough for the top HS clubs and no interest in college lax, just a girl who loves to play and is pretty good. Girls like this (and I know probably a dozen of them) are talking about trying out for Madlax. There just aren’t many options for them. Don’t tell me Cardinals- when DD tried out for them this past year not a single current player would so much as toss her the ball. |
