Nah, they don't exist to make money. They exist because those involved love the sport. If you calculated what those coaches make on a per hour basis, I doubt it would be impressive.

Also, let's be real, you get what you pay for. Travel team coaches (who get paid) [i]are [/i]better than rec coaches (who don't get paid). If paying for better coaching outrages you, put your kid on a rec team and you're good to go.[/quote]

Not always. I've seen rec coaches that do a much better job of coaching lax than paid travel coaches. Have you seen the fall Madlax roster? One capital team has over 30 kids - what are you exactly paying for?[/quote]

I have yet to see that. Every rec coach I have seen, it's "daddyball". He may or may not know anything about lacrosse, but his main "qualification" is that his kid is on the team.

In addition to that, when you play travel, you are playing with (and against) better players than in rec leagues. It makes your kid better to play with (and against) better players. Whether or not that is worth the money is up to you.[/quote]
