Why? Certainly a deal like FCV's with Loudoun would only drain talent from ASA, but I think there could be formula where ASA could benefit. Lots of considerations though... McLean could be making an attempt to create an even stronger girls ECNL in the face of talent drain to DA and would be creating a path for their boys to DA. ASA considerations might be similar ... on the girls side, a merger might avoid the loss of younger talent seeking an eventual path to DA and it would increase their DA pool on the boys side. A massive super club (Arlinclean? McLington?) might have long term advantages but would be a nightmare to coordinate, and would likely be a loser for the players in the near term. |
ASA wanted a path to GDA, not ECNL. They tried that MYS joint pre-ECNL thing and it failed 2 years ago. ASA girls would just stay put (maybe ASA's true goal?!), as adding some new ECNL deal with MYS adds no new incentives. If any girl wants ECNL, they can just get in their car with mom and drive a short trip up there and tryout anytimw they want as PPs pointed out. I am not sure what parent in ASA won't see right through this. It would be a nothing burger to quote a PP. Pathway to McLean ECNL?! Nope. Try again. |
^^ ASA wants DA, period.
1 - it tried to get an alliance with Spirit DA a year ago. 2 - it applied for a FULL GDA at the end of last year. Those facts speak for themselves. No one is running to MYS for the ECNL anymore. |
how does ASA's situation differ from that of Loudoun? Both are large clubs with strong CCL presence. Both sought GDA, (reportedly) could not reach agreement with Spirit, and (reportedly) have been denied their own berths.
Loudoun is now (reportedly) heading for ECNL, but according to PP's here, ASA remains dead set on DA. Perhaps Loudoun has DC United moving in next door, and ECNL is merely a stopgap measure. While the DA is clearly the future, the transition period is chaotic. |
Loudon officially announced by ECNL today. |
That has to officially end the Loudoun/FCV merger then. |
And let the watering down continue. |
Well, Loudoun will stay very strong and competitive with this addition. I don't see many A team kids leaving Loudoun now. |
Will Loudoun pull out of CCL now and join NPL? |
Time will tell. Some folks may like the idea of 6 to 8 league games a season. All jokes aside this doesn’t help the development of the kids in our area. The 04s and 03s around here were a perfect example. There aren’t enough “elite” players for these “elite” teams |
While the teams themselves may not be pockets of soccer powerhouses, I believe it is safe to say that with BRYC, McLean, Spirit, VDA, Loudoun, and FCV the kids are actually getting quality coaching overall. That in and of itself is quite good. More and more kids are being exposed to quality coaching across all of these clubs, by and large, and that is a good thing for soccer and development. |
I’d agree with that overall. |
Public service announcement: A number of girls 04 and above have been guest playing at Washington Spirit VA practices in hopes of being rostered next year. It's not all about the ID days. |
A time honored tradition and goes for any team. If you are interested in joining any team it is always best to talk to the coach directly and try to have your kid attend practices. |
