Host informs parents "don't bring your monsters"

Go, but tell him you used the money you would have spent on his gift to pay for a babysitter.

Ironically, when the snotbag has his own children I predict that he'll expect the world to revolve around them.

I contacted them both privately. It's not like I put it all out there for everyone to read. I sent the message more so for the 30 y/o mother (my aunt). She is upset with his post and wants him to take it down. I have no special relationship with my cousin obviously but I did not think it would hurt for him to hear from another family member that his was post causing so much drama. It was not well received and I was told where I could go. I am not going to bring it up again.

Good, that's what you deserved.
And of course you aren't going to bring it up again, you'd be ceritifiable if you did. You can't possibly have this little going on in your own life that you are going to make this invitation your Moby Dick.

His post was not the thing causing so much drama, at all.

The problem is not that kids are not allowed or that babysitting won't be provided. The problem is that he is so hateful about it. It's pretty clear that he's a child hater. I wouldn't have planned to bring my kid to such a party, but I would be very put off by his obvious disgust for children. Screw him.

Wow, you just can't let it go, can you? You are a busybody and doing no one any favors.

I don't think I am a busybody for privately asking him to remove his post. He does not even care how upset his own mom is over this. He had a point to prove but to be so rude?!

I suspect that he had your children in mind when he said "no monsters.". Probably, you, as well.

I would not classify this as a family party at all. Her friends will out number the family members who are attending. Only the 20 and early 30s family members are going. Some of those have children and I agree were totally out of line asking him to provide childcare and a party room for their kids.

I hope you also went out of your way to shame the people who were so rude as to ask for a party room and babysitters, and not just the person who had to deal with their bad behavior.

I don't understand all these posts defending the cousin. He sounds like an angry, toxic jerk.

Anonymous wrote:Those asking ot change plans or provide a babysitter are way out of line. You don't dictate the rules of someone else's party!! WTF? And why would you WANT to bring a kid to that type of party? What is wrong with you?

But, your cousin is a raging dick. I probably would not go on principle b/c of that. There is a way to act and convey information that is both firm in its boundary and still polite. He was a dick. I don't deal with dicks, family or not.

This. Asking for free babysitting is rude. But your cousin's response, as well as his response to you, was escalatingly rude. Threatening to disinvite people and cancel the party? Way over the top. He was within his rights not to want kids at the party. But he's clearly a jackass.

I love the response. I really don't understand idiots that are offended by it.

I would be more bothered that your family and friends are such incredibly entitled jerks who are asking for kids' party room! BTW, sarcasm is one of the first markers of recognizing smart people, there is truth to the fact that they can't fully reign it in. Learn to laugh a little. I'd be more worried about those same clueless guests ruining the party.

Oh, bullshit. This kind of sarcasm is not a sign of intelligence. It's the humor of teenagers and people who think they are smarter than others. Being able to be mean and harsh is not a sign of intelligence. I don't get what's funny about--I hate kids, I don't want your kids there, I've already disinvited some family members over this, I'm paying for the party, so shut up.

Yes, people are rude to ask for free child care. But that doesn't mean that the host/guest of honor gets free rein to be a dick about it. Just say the party is adults-only and people need to make their own child care arrangements.

Everyone involved in this entire situation seems horrible TBH.

Yes to the bold part.

Takes one to know one I guess, PP.

He could have gotten his message across in a humored way but instead chose to be snippy (bratty) about it. I probably would not go.

I agree. It started off as being semi-funny/sarcastic/an attempt to defuse, and then went much too far and got attacking/offensice
