My kid got 5 in both for Parcc (99%tile) and got rejected too.

There are not GPAs in Elementary schools. You are probably the old guy in pjs who has no kids. Go away.

I am most definitely a mom of a kid at an HGC. It was short hand way of saying he got all A's first quarter, which is all they considered since there were no grades last year. I don't remember his MAP R score, it was pretty high, 240's or 250's, whatever it was it was a drop from 4th grade Spring; I just had checked his MAP M score for a different reason and so remembered it. He was rejected for both TMPS and Eastern. I'm providing data that it was not just kids with high test scores from W schools that got rejected. I'm pretty surprised it was not even a waitlist, for either school.

Weren't PARCC scores part of the process?

No. Read the paperwork or look in the section on magnet testing for these schools on the MCPS website. Why are you idiots asking for this basic information? go away.

maybe the test this year was watered down so it's easier for mcps to pick whoever they prefer without being sued. The accepted must also all have the 99% scores.

I am assuming that since you only supplied Map-M that he was applying to Takoma Park. I imagine the competition for TP is especially fierce this year. Good luck in your home school - I am sure he will be fine - he sounds like a good kid with motivated parents, and he will succeed no matter where he is. And I am sure that he will find friends at the same level in his home middle school.

You are really very sweet. I'm more disappointed than I expected, and it's just nice of you to reach out to a stranger with some kind words. Yes he's a great kid who rolls with the punches and he will be fine. Thank you.

Wow, this is eye-opening! Can anyone whose kid got in, please share the percentiles?

My child will be sitting for the CES test soon, but I'm not holding my breath; this entire "G&T" and "magnet" selection process is such a scam. Hopefully, the HS school magnet admission is a bit more transparent and fair.

NP. Another rejection; my child's scores were 99, 94, 96, composite 98. Sounds like even though my child performed strongly on this test, there's quite a handful of other children who were even stronger and didn't get in.

We applied through the "Private School" track as we just moved to Montgomery County and my child has been at a crowded DCPS school for the first part of the year. One of my worries was that the crowded school, which has no gifted program, doesn't do anything to cultivate stronger students and my child has gotten lost in the crowd. Report card was fine (some 'exceeds expectations), but that's because expectations are for just fine and they do not notice when a child can exceed expectations. My child's PARCC scores (Which I submitted with the application) were excellent, though.

So what next? Her local middle school (Sandy Creek) will probably have a number of gifted kids but as far as I'm aware, has no gifted program. It doesn't do any good to have a strong 'peer group' unless they can be taught in this peer group....

My kid got 97s and 98s. Obviously not accepted anywhere. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who got in!
