You would think, right? Except the NRA has gone balls to the wall to make sure no one is ever held liable for gun violence ever, under any circumstances, no matter how careless.

And this is why nothing will ever get better wrt guns. This and calling all the toddlers who get a hold of guns and killing themselves or others "tragic accidents". Gtfo with that nonsense - that is a negligent gun owner and that should be treated as a criminal act. Me, too. I'm sooo sad for the little boy. It is an absolutely tragic situation all around but that poor, poor child. How excited he must have been a week ago and how scared he must have been two nights ago. My heart is breaking for him because his world has just been turned totally upside down and everything he knows about being safe in his own home has been shaken.

+1 I will GUARANTEE that this kid's parents thought they were responsible gun owners, because everyone claims to be a responsible gun owner until the day their kid commits suicide, or murders another child, or just accidentally shoots their sibling.

Based on the info provided, it looks like the parents didn't know who the boy, and used spying to try and figure it out (which is not reliable). It may have helped to have a personal relationship with the boy their daughter is dating, vs. making assumptions and acting on them. And were you never a teenager? Kids sneak in and out their windows all the time to do what they want!

This doesn't make sense if both kids were in the same private school. Private schools in NOVA rather small, and everyone knows everyone, especially if the girl's family are from this area.
