Be honest - how often do you bathe your kids?

This is nasty. Many a baby can be wiped down every other day but EVERYBODY else needs their butt washed in water! A ten year old? - you are trifling and teaching kids to be nasty.

The body isn't supposed to be washed every day. There are good and bad bacteria on your skin, as well as protective oils, wash these away and your body over compensates. Every other day is all anyone needs to bathe, especially if you are using antibacterial soaps, which help to create super bugs.

This is exactly why I dislike sleepovers and office potlucks. You never know who has washed what when.

Potlucks I can understand, you never know who has rats and roaches. Children who haven't had a bath for a day are not filthy, nor will they give you the plague.

One day no a pattern of one day intervals is a problem. Maybe it's normal for some households but since when is bathing everyday not the norm?

It's been the norm longer than bathing every day. DH had really bad skin, a combination of eczema and acne and his dermatologist told him that bathing daily causing both conditions to flare up. The doctor said it was about having a balance of good and bad bacteria and keeping essential oils on the body.

okay that's for him not for everyone

Oy. It's not that everyone gets acne or suffers from eczema. It's that everyone needs to have a healthy balance of good and bad bacteria and body oils. If you don't have enough good bacteria you are more prone to yeast infections and illnesses.

You don't have to shower to wash your anus. This is why bidets were invented. If you don't have one, you can get an attachment hose that goes in the top or your toilet, or you can use flushable wipes. You can also get a small plastic bowl (with a handle) and prepare it with soapy water to wash yourself after having a bit of a poo.

NP here. have too many "essential oils" and they make my skin break out. So my dermatological situation is not the same as your child's, and I have to wash every day. It is not actually for everyone and you should not speak in such absolutes.

My kids are 4 and 5. They get baths once or twice a week - more if they wear bug spray or sunscreen or have visible dirt on them, but we haven't been out that much this summer. They don't stink. They wipe their butts with flushable wipes. They bathed more frequently (every day) back when we had a nanny, but honestly? They have have had fewer illnesses since we lost the nanny and dropped the frequent baths (knock on wood!) I'm not trying to justify their lack (to some) of "cleanliness" - I'm sure it's completely unrelated or coincidental - but regardless, my kids no longer have dry skin and their hair (especially my daughter's, which is really long) looks great. Once they hit puberty, however, they will probably have to bathe more because they WILL stink then!

9 pages about this? Impressive. Really quite impressive.

I think it's hysterical that 'cleanliness' is in quotes, as if bathing only fakes cleanliness. When my kids bathe they are not only so-called clean, they are REALLY clean.

It was a long evening. I wish I had gone to bed early.

When you think that in Japan, people take off their shoes at the door to enter a house, have special bathroom slippers for the bathroom, lather and rinse outside the bathtub to then step in a soap-free water to relax, and have developed toilets that at the push of a button rinse then air-dry your bottom so that you do not have to touch toilet paper to your behind... they have been the cleanest people on earth for centuries, and here we are talking about showering X times a week!!!

Infants apart, everybody should shower every day, avoid antibacterials and irritating surfactants, period.
