School Clothes for the Fall

I really don't think there are a chorus of advisors on this thread who are insisting that expensive clothes are the key to social success at Big 3 schools. What I've read are a few folks offering tips on how to mix up a basic wardrobe of Target and Old Navy with a few items drawn from more premium brands purchased at consignment shops. What is wrong with that? Aren't we all supposed to be chanting the mantra "reduce, reuse, recycle"?

Look, regardless of what my own views are about clothes, my DD has her own opinions on how she wants to dress. She figures it out through hand-me-downs, consignment stores, department store sales, etc. She attends a Big 3. She is a kid, so, of course, there is occasional whining about why we are not buying her this or that. I think, however, that she is learning lessons that will help her throughout her life.

They're not usually unhappy; that's just how they look when they see kids on the school playground whose clothes weren't purchased at the appropriate price point!

They could just be upset about those silly bows in their heads... and being picked on themselves

If your mother bought you stuff like this

to wear to school, you'd be angry too!

Seriously, you gotta wonder what the target demographic is for that image. Who sees that picture and says "wow, that's just how I want my daughter to look"?!

Target has nice clothes for boys, but I find the girls clothes to be a bit to tacky. The shorts are too short, too many sparkles, colors too bright. The swim suits are great for girls and boys.

I have to disagree... I think the girls clothes are so much better there than the boys clothes.

I agree re: your disagree

I have had a tough time finding good things for DS at Target. I've had better luck at H&M and -- when ordering online -- at Lands End.
