Do your own research and if you think DCUM is the best or only way for you to discover the right way, I worry for your child. Sorry if I sound cranky but come on. |
Read the minutes or watch the video of their last meeting with the DCPCSB when the enrollment ceiling was up for review. The school leaders explain their decision and rationale. You can agree or disagree but you can't say their reasons are not well known. |
|
| So you own research and come to your own conclusions. |
| 9:47 sounds like she's one of those "but my nanny swore she spoke to her only in Spanish, so it makes sense to force your third grader in an immersion school!" Types. This poster is also known as the "if it sounds good on the Christmas card update, it's the best option for my child". And if your point is that Spanish speaking children should be given a preference, I agree with you. Now convince congress of that. |
Not really. Immersion is not even a big priority for my family. We only applied in case DC doesn't do well in myschooldc's lottery. So I suppose can turn into a "why doesn't LAMB join the common lottery" debate. |
|
I don't know ... it's bilingual AND Montessori. Kind of makes sense that it would be hard to catch kids up after K.
-Not a LAMB parent |
| My child is older than K with both a Montessori AND Spanish background. We are moving from out-of-state, and I don't understand the reasoning behind not filling open seats due to attrition in older grades with kids that meet this criteria. |
|
It's very simple: the charter laws in DC don't allow schools to screen by criteria. It has to be a lottery open to all.
|
PP you quoted. I was a NP. I just wanted to point out that there are native Spanish folks in DC. I understand that LAMB doesn't accept after a certain grade and gave no issue with it, but you shouldn't assume all posters don't have language background. Regardless of your race, your post was very narrow minded. |
Cool. And you assumed right back I had no Spanish background. So pot, meet kettle. |
| When do they start crossing names off the results list? I assume there is some sort of enrollment deadline, right? |
It could be a months-long lag of a family holding two spots, not just a slight lag. OSSE is the only connection between LAMB and My School DC schools and they don't catch dual enrollments in real time. LAMB really should participate in the common lottery. |
Yes, this is yet another thing (the lottery) LAMB doesn't handle well. What super secretive reason does LAMB have for not participating in the common lottery? |
It's not secret. They believe that they attract a more diverse applicant pool by running their own -- they want to do as much as they can to try to keep the balance between native Spanish speakers and native English speakers even. The lottery is held in pubic, so there is no cheating to get the results turn out that way. They also don't have the pay the per school tax charged by the DME to LEAs to participate in the lottery. |
