I am really interested in the school but I have to say I'm pretty put off by how little they seem to care about welcoming new families. I guess when you have 650 people on your waitlist you don't really have to lift a finger, but come on.
The email I got had the campus in the subject line. Yours didn't?
No, it did not. I am top 5 on the list and the email just says I have a slot at either campus. PP are you pk3?
Doesn't that mean you get to choose the campus? Not sure why you would be put off about getting that choice.
Hmm, I didn't read it that way, but maybe you're right. It says: "a slot may be available at either of our sites." And then it goes on to say that the frst step is to tell them whether we accept the slot. I guess we will accept and find out.
I think most people in the first round o offers will get the campus they want. Happy to answer any questions about either campus if you are uncertain about which one is best (beyond your commute, which I can't address). My kids have attended both.
We're in the same boat as PP, and I think we're pretty sure we prefer the Missouri campus, but I would welcome any feedback - positive or negative - that you have. Thanks!
It's probably easier to answer specific questions of interest, but overall, the SD campus has more grades (all of them), has more kids and the building feels bigger. The older kids are on the upper floor, little kids on first floor and from what I remember when we were there 3 years ago, they didn't interact much, except during Peace Ceremonies (a wonderful monthly event at school). The MO campus does not have the upper grades (4th & 5th), but the building is smaller so all age groups interact more. I have never seen any problems with this, and I prefer it actually. I prefer the MO building b/c of the size, but this is solely my opinion and other's definitely do not share this view. Neither campus has superb playgrounds, but they don't have to leave campus and kids manage fine. The SD playground is bigger, but the MO campus uses the Park Service field next to it. Not ideal but the school makes it work. The SD campus does not have this open field (unless they have recently started using the park across the street). Great teachers at both campuses.
I don't know what the makeup of classes will be when Walter Reed opens, but most likely the MO campus kids will go to WR somewhere in the elementary years. Not sure how many grades SD will have, mainly whether 4th & 5th will all go to WR. If this matters to you, you would need to ask this of the admin. It is possible to move from one campus to another.
