Why Asian American kids excel. It’s not ‘Tiger Moms.’

I bet your loud Asian kids will go far in life. I am serious, the outgoing Asian child that questions things really will do well.

Please tell that to my loud Asian kids. They keep getting into trouble in school for talking too much. Also, my one DC's teacher said DC has great leadership skills. Dc is in 4th grade.

Maybe those Asian adopted kids are quiet and reserved because they feel like they don't fit in?

Also, did you know that there are several large corporations in the US that are headed up by Asians? Shock, I know.

+1 My Asian American son was taking up too much class participation time in classes some of the teacher had to limit his class discussions in high school. All the kids in the classroom looked to him whenever the school went on a field trip to local museums and the guide would ask questions. There are plenty of active and creative Asian students.

"Creates and leads the company's" what?

Yes, google. You haven't been keeping up with the news. The head of Google is an Indian guy. The head of Alphabet is still Larry Paige.

The distinction between Google and google is kind of significant due to the fact that company Google is well-known throughout the world and the term google is also well-known as in I am going to google it. Googler is also well-known.

You need to pay more attention to the news because you have completely missed PP's point.

The company previously known as Google has been reorganized into several companies which are held by company called Alphabet. Google is a subdivision of that company and only takes care of their search and advertising business. The Google subdivision will be headed by Sundar Pichai, who is Indian. Alphabet is headed by the founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergei Brin.

Here is the abstract:

The status attainment model highlights the role of family socioeconomic status (SES) in the intergenerational reproduction of educational attainment; however, the model falls short in predicting the educational outcomes of the children of Asian immigrants, whose attainment exceeds that which would have been predicted based on family SES alone. On the other hand, the cultural capital model gives primacy to the role of middle-class cultural capital in reproducing advantage, but neglects contextual factors outside the family. We fill a theoretical and empirical niche by introducing a model of cultural frames to explain how the children of immigrants whose families exhibit low SES and lack middle-class cultural capital attain exceptional educational outcomes. Based on in-depth interviews with adult children of Chinese and Vietnamese immigrants randomly drawn from the survey of Immigration and Intergenerational Mobility in Metropolitan Los Angeles, we show that Chinese and Vietnamese immigrant parents and their children use ethnicity as a resource to construct and support a strict “success frame” that helps the poor and working class override their disadvantages. However, there are unintended consequences to adopting such a strict success frame: those who do not meet its exacting tenets feel like ethnic outliers, and as a result, they distance themselves from coethnics and from their ethnic identities because they link achievement with ethnicity. We conclude by underscoring the benefits of decoupling race/ethnicity and achievement for all groups.

This is a good argument for the discussion we had earlier on "black people fail because they're poor." See, other people are poor, yet succeed.
