If I had to give myself one piece of advice to my younger self, it would be to give yourself a break. You are your worse critic. If you've had men interested in you (as I did), then that means they don't think your body is *that* unattractive, that they would be willing to have sex with you. Hindsight, this is what I realized. In a lot of ways, I don't regret waiting for my DH, but it was the insecurities that I had that regret the most. Have confidence. Be comfortable in your own skin. That's what men will find attractive. I finally started to feel more confident and comfortable with myself in my late 20's.

I was 28. I was very shy and insecure around boys so I never really dated in HS and college. I went to an all girls' HS too. I felt pretty embarrassed that I was still a virgin at age 28 but my 1st boyfriend was very sweet and understanding.

It's not an old wives tale. Maybe it depends on how much hymen you have, but the first time for me, which was totally consensual, was insanely painful and there was a lot of blood too.
