Check on old map - the WHOLE country was Palestine. Israel did not exist until after WWII. It did not exist until we made it so.

So, then should we give a country to the African Americans in the US because they were slaves? You know, maybe kick everybody out of Cameroon and give it to them (if they'd want it, probably not)? Isn't west africa the homeland for a lot of African Americans, so it's like theirs anyway? I mean come on - this line of thinking is really freaking absurd. I cannot think of anyplace other than the US itself where people came and just kicked the indigenous people the hell out (like we did to the native americans, and then gave them a few scraps/reservations). By force.

That's what Liberia was, read a bit. That did not work. Israel will go the same way.

Let's be real, Israel is not our ally! Israel is in it for Israel. What has Israel done for the USA period? Israel spies on the USA. Israel is still pressing the USA to release the Pollard sky as a condition of a middle east peace deal. Israel has provided sanctuary to those who have committed murder in the USA (Sheinbein). Israel provided fake intel to the USA regarding Iraq's WMD, only because Israel wanted Saddam gone (they accused Saddam of going support to bombers in the Gaza). What benefit has Isreal been to the USA? I would venture the negatives greatly outweigh the positives.

Let us not forget the whole Russian Jewish refugee thing (that involved Pollard). The scheme was really a way to get US politicians to pressure Russia to release Jews (who did not care about religion anyway) because communism wasn't their style (even though they invented it and initially supported it). When those "refugees" made it to Austria and Italy, they were granted the right to come to the US (not Israel like they said they wanted). What's more, those who were disabled or elderly got on social security right away upon arrival here. There are many US born Americans, elderly and disabled who for one reason or another don't qualify for social security. But the new refugees from Russia get first class treatment here. And sadly, some of them quickly figured out how to put down minorities (to top it off).

Haven't read all of this thread and don't know the history well enough, but was this proposed back at the end if WWII? I can understand a holocaust survivor wanting to get the F out of Germany, but this would have made sense in a way. Why was Palestine selected?

Ok but these were European Jews and that's where the atrocities occurred. I recall hearing of individual cases where survivors tried to go back to their homes only to find them occupied by someone else, but did this happen at the country level too? Why wasn't Israel carved out in europe instead? its not like Germany was in a great bargaining position at that point.

People were fleeing to what is currently Israel between when the Nazis came to power, and when World War II started legally, and many after World War II also left Europe for Israel.

I am Jewish. My guess? The Europeans didn't want a Jewish state in Europe. And frankly, if you were a Jewish Holocaust survivor - would YOU want to stay in Europe after your friends and neighbors turned on you? Some did, certainly, but a large majority did not. Not surprising.

Because Israel is and always has been the Jewish homeland. In his history, other than being under the Ottoman and Roman empires, Israel was governed by Jews. Jews have a far longer history in Israel than any other nation.

Um, the Chrokee have a longer history here.
Also, Palestinian DNA goes right back to that land along with the male Jewish lineage.
Jews are very much mixed with people from other lands, like Italy, Poland, Yemen, Algeria.

Yes, perhaps the Semitic and Palestinian Jews. Not the German, Poland, russian, etc Jews. The ones that currently dominate and control Israel.

This is laughable propoganda to justify the many atrocities committed by Israel.

If you sell your house and move out, you can't just come back a thousand years later and say that you used to live there.
If the Jews planned to come back, they should have told everyone before they left and sent reminder notices for centuries.
A more appropriate way would have been to buy the land from those people willing to sell.
