Oops, I meant 4 in each grade (not each classroom).
My guess is that nearly everyone who applied for PK thru 4 is going to be waitlisted. It's unlikely any parents have indicated they're not coming back next year since the potential move hasn't been finalized and the common lottery hasn't occurred. The only folks who could have indicated they're not returning at this point would be folks going private and those who know they're moving .... |
The PCSB approved an additional 2 spots per grade for each grade, over and above what they have this year. Even if they went to siblings (which seems unlikely in grades over PK3), they would have been offered by lottery. Even the Pk3 spots that went to siblings were offered by lottery. So it seems like they are keeping their options open as to whether to increase non-PK3 classes over their current capacity, if in fact there were no spaces open at all in those grades. (Just because they were approved by PCSB does not mean they have to offer them.) |
Or, maybe they want to see if any new families in PK3 have older sibs to offer them spots first, and after that they will go to the waitlist. |
Maybe we have slots above K at CM...maybe we don't. Maybe you can get in at PS3...maybe not. Maybe we're moving...maybe not. Maybe we pick applicants randomly through a lottery...maybe not. |
ok final question: did they announce the names for the waitlist for PK and above on Saturday... or not?? |
I'm a current CM parent and I don't believe the characterization above is entirely correct. They sought and received PCSB approval for up to 17 children per classroom per year -- not 2 above the current number. My child's PK class has 16 students, so, at best, we're talking about an additional space next year unless a family doesn't return. I agree that just b/c they were approved for up to 17 per class doesn't mean they will offer them. I'm not sure how the administration will make that decision (since it's an inclusion school, I can imagine it could be somewhat more complicated than we'd expect, although I don't know for certain). |

The charter board amendment requested 2 per grade, from 32 to 34, which is consistent with moving from 16 to 17 per class and having two additional per grade. |
I hope you don't get in, in fact I hope you don't get into any charter school. You don't seem to have concept of the extensive moving parts of the behind the scenes of a new, young charter school. You are exactly the type a large, long term DCPS with lots of bureaucracy is made for. Good luck. |
Anyone got a call yet? |
