Anyone going? It's public this year.

I am.

OMG, I hope someone from the Post is attending so they can write about it. The energy in the room will probably be so manic. It reminds me of my med school friends who all had to gather in a room for their public residency "match" day. Intense.

Seriously?

You sound like a really bitter and sad person. They had something like a 1,000 applications for maybe 20 spots and you hope there is an article about the pain and suffering of these parents.

Wow.

OP here. How do we know the results?

Does anyone know whether CM is moving, and to where? I know they said wards 1 or 4, but parts of ward 4 are pretty far from their current location (and nowhere near public transportation). Also, if they move, will this be for the next school year (2014-2015), or after that?

I am the person who said I am going. I don't understand why it will be intense. There are so many applications and so few spaces that it would be silly to get all worked up over it. I am going because it is close to my home and I just want to see and give myself some school related stuff to occupy my school lottery-obsessed brain as I wait for March 31 to arrive. Besides, I am applying for first grade so my chances are super slim.

Good luck!

We love the school, hope you become part of it!

Did they ever say how many slots they will have for older grades? I was thinking since they have more space now, they might be able to expand more? I am applying with two first graders and a third grader!

At the open house, they said even if they move, they won't add more classrooms or children/classroom. Right now, their model is small class sizes and two classes per grade. They don't feel they are ready to expand beyond that.

There will be a slight expansion (as approved by the DCPCSB) at most, 2 kids per grade. The sibbling forms and the intent to return forms were all due back and have been counted, so they know exactly how many spaces they have.

The lottery is 3 days away, so everyone will know soon enough.

But how do we find out?

Yes, sorry, at the open house, the numbers they provided included the additional two per grade. If I recall, they said that means they have 34 slots (including siblings) for PK3, rather than 32 of last year. Not that that helps OP--not sure how many slots they will have open if there is attrition, especially if they move. Obviously there will be at least 2!

Do they post results or do you have to be there?

I really hope they post them publicly, especially after all the "new founder" allegations last year, which may or may not have been true. Last year, it appears that they called people who got in and sent postcards to everyone else: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/296602.page
