lawyer moms...

Let's see advising on complex and interesting issues or changing more diapers?! But I will say that it gets easier. I left a firm for government because I had no future there and the people were assholes, but the government is an easier schedule.

It will get easier with your child. My daughter is almost two and things are so so so much better. She is more fun to be around as well. We have a nanny, but I can see that she will soon be better off in daycare around other kids. I wouldn't want to start a daycare because let's face it your child will eventually go to school and frankly I wouldn't leave my kid with some randomn former attorney who wants to stay at home but get paid.

+1 totally agree

I interviewed for this position in late April and recently got an offer for a GS-9, however, I'm already a GS-11 attorney with another agency and I actually worked as a GS-9 for VBA as a rater. If they can't match my GS-11 pay, I won't be able to take it. The HR person told me the selecting official said they start everyone as a GS-9. What did you do to negotiate higher? I'm sort of dismayed they offered a GS-9. It was posted as a GS-9 or a GS-11. I thought it was implied I was interviewing for the GS-11 since it was obvious from my résumé that I was already a GS-11, plus most agencies start law clerks waiting for bar results at a GS-9. Is this their practice to start the offer low?

my agency starts law clerks who haven't passed the bar yet at GS11. GS9 seems super low.

How can you hope to land this job if you can't figure out how to apply for it? Seriously?

It was listed on neither USA jobs nor the DVA website.

I found the posting on the intercollegiate job board, but that posting ended April 19. There are apparently multiple postings floating out there.

Exactly! To make matters worse, I looked up the salaries for some of the new attorneys and they don't all start as GS-9. Why tell me something that's easily researched? Federal employee salaries are public information.

After my first was born I went to a 70% schedule, and was billing more billable and client development non billable than full time sr associate/my peers but for less pay. I started bringing in new clients and new matters from existing clients. I started feeling taken advantage of, but didn't have enough portables to make a jump. The situation really sucked. I ended up quitting.

Has anyone recently interviewed and been offered a position? I'm waiting to hear back from HR. After I interviewed they asked for further information. I hope that's a good sign.
