PP here - I agree which is why I included the comment. Consulting sounds so exciting when you are 23 and childless... |

OP questioner here: I actually don't work for the OCC. I regulate at the holding company level ![]() Thanks for the input on PFG. I'm early 30s, childless, and not intending on having any kids anytime soon. Where do your travels take you? Mostly around the US? Do you also consult for FBOs? |
Good. I hate to see others suffering at the OCC. I also know the regulator you are referring to at the holding company level. ![]() |
From what I understand, the people who do my job at the OCC have it cushier than myself (less work/stress, better hours, everyone leaves at 5pm on the dot, higher pay, comparable benefits). And, to be honest, I have it pretty damn good ($100K, amazing benefits, alternate work schedule (every other Friday off), and 20 days PTO). Recently, people from my organization have been defecting to the OCC. Also, apparently the OCC's new building is SUPER NICE and the move has changed the work mentality within the organization. The only reason I would go private sector is to make more money. I'd only leave if I could get $175-200K to compensate for the higher stress and longer hours. My current job is very chill the majority of the year. |
I vote "chill" but I have a child too. What is the chance you can get back into your "cushie" situtation if you feel PFG is a big mistake? Good Luck!! |
I think it will be tough, but not impossible, to get back in if I go private sector. My skills and knowledge are very specialized and I could slot myself back into the group, so long as the management structure does not drastically change. We are, literally, turning away Ivy League-educated senior associates from white shoe firms for a position similar to mine because we can afford to be that picky. I have extremely well qualified applicants trying to taking me out to coffee to get a foot in the door here. I am still worried about the prospects of what will happen when QE3 ends, interest rates go up, and sequestration fully hit the DC area. My job is recession-proof and I can stay here for life, if I want. |
do not be so judgemental People who send their kids to boarding schools do so just because they can, not because their job requires time away |
On the contrary I work for health insurance corporations and do a lot of technical it work for them. Next time I can go to the librarian instead of oncologist? |

+1. When I was 15 my parents offered me a chance to go to boarding school in Europe and left the decision up to me. Best 2 years of my life. Truly a lifetime of memories |
