what charter spot(s) did you receive but are turning down?

You can call now and take yourself off the waitlist (I did for Bridges PreS) - it makes the process quicker so that they do not pend a day trying to get in touch / waiting for a response before they call the next person in line.

Yes, please! It is always nice - and has to be good karma - to call a school and take yourself off the waitlist if you know you're not interested.

In this context it serves as a warning that the person writing is pretentious and annoying.

Just politely turned down a Pre-K spot at Apple Tree CH after getting the call this morning. It was the first thing I had ever heard back from them (I thought I would get a letter in the mail or something, but apparently you have to call them to find out admission status if you are on the waiting list). I was not even aware that I was #11 on the waiting list, but that is what I was told when I asked. Hope this info (and spot) benefits someone else!

Did you consider turning it down impolitely? It sounds like you were a lazy, brewing pit of anger that acted with much restraint. I hope you weren't really as upset by having a good number as it sounds that you were.

How you inferred all that from my post defies the imagination. I was passing along information, plain and simple, so others could use it to their benefit. Your invective is very hurtful. And for the record, I applied to two charter schools. If Apple Tree did not feel the need to notify me of my lottery status, that is its decision, but I decided to take another spot at a different school when I heard nothing, and promptly turned down the Apple Tree spot within two hours of being admitted so another family could benefit. Contrary to your ill-informed beliefs, I am a single parent who works more than full time to take care of my family, and I have been dealing with an illness for the past few months on top of that. Tracking down the admission status on my own when other schools are able to notify me was not my responsibility in any case. You should learn to be more considerate and thoughtful before hurling hateful words, or calling people "lazy" or "full of anger."

I am sorry that you were hurt by my comment. I did not realize that you were so delicate. By specifying that you "politely" turned them down, it sounded like you were upset to have been given the spot.

Yes, "lazy," "angry" and "delicate" are the three words that define me the most. Any more insults you would like to hurl based on the use of the word "politely" (which was not intended as anything other than I was nice to the woman on the phone)? This is what you get for trying to pass along information on this board. Did it ever occur to you that people may want to know how far down AppleTree was on its waiting list as of today in case they were hoping for a spot? A list generated randomly by a lottery (you act as though I had a privileged station in life for being 11 on the wait list). Don't worry, I won't be back. What people say about the hatefulness on these boards really is true.

I recently declined a K spot at IT. I tried a couple of dry runs in rush hour traffic and could not make it work. Good Luck to those on the list.
