what charter spot(s) did you receive but are turning down?

now that the charter lotteries have all been completed (although some results are still pending) can we start a post about which spot(s) you received but are NOT taking?
I'll post in a reply.

Wish we had that kind of luck. This has been a seriously sad process. Best hope by far is a low 30 waitlist number at an unproven new charter. This post is of serious interest to me, even though I have nothing productive to offer.

things will move a bunch over the next month - and then again in August. Finally through the 1st week in Sept.

May I ask why you are turning down the spots

I just turned down our 3 year old spot at Appletree Amidon. I can't really make the location work for us.

In my experience (this the 4th lottery year I've observed) low 30s is not too bad for unproven school. You wouldn't believe how fast those waitlists move in late August-September. This is really only the beginning of the lottery shuffle. It's a pretty stressful time. I wish it were easier, I see my friends going through it and wish I could help. Having said that, every year people point out that the waitlists move a LOT in late summer. It's the nature of the beast, mostly because people want to keep their options open as long as they can.

Hey out there - if you already know (and almost everyone has a gut-level preference), please go ahead and commit. Let a spot go. If only for the karma.

Probably turning down a PK slot at Mundo Verde -- we also got a PK slot at Two Rivers. (I am floored by the fact that we won TWO lottery seats! Last year we crashed and burned in the PS lotteries.) I would love to have my child experience an immersion program but the logistics of 2R work much better for us, particularly if Mundo Verde does end up in Columbia Heights or LaDroit Park, and I have always been excited by 2R's expeditionary learning curriculum.

Dorothy Height. Haven't heard great things about it, and we got a spot at Apple Tree.

By "high number", I'm guessing you mean low number.

For K? PK?

We're probably turning down a spot high on the wait list for Mundo Verde K and we also applied to Inspired Teaching. Both are unproven, and our child has special needs. With regret and sorrow, we're probably headed to Bethesda.
We applied to Two Rivers, but are 'way down on the wait list. Plus, it borders a tough neighborhood and has not much of a playground. That said, we know many people who are happy there. If we'd gotten in...well, we can't wait until August.
