First sleep over for my daughter, and the mom was drinking wine.

yup. that's the rule in our home from the day we got home from the hospital with the baby.

I am certainly not an extremist in my views on child raising, but back in the day (my kids are 16 and 18), when there was drop off for a slumber birthday party I was frequently invited in to stay and chat during drop off. I was never lured with the promise of wine. The parents just talked for a few minutes and then left. I feel that in this situation the mom wanted to drink-period.

I have even had people question my judgement on other parenting issues but drinking anything while supervising a child's slumber party is irresponsible. Depending on the size of the glass of wine, I for one am probably under the influence.

Honestly, depending on the size of the glass of wine, a shot of Southern Comfort contains the same amount of alcohol-and I'm sure this would definitely be frowned upon. Wine shows refinement so we are not supposed to get upset!!!

I love this post and do not think it is dumb.

Amen sister. I'm the first poster who told the OP to loosen up.

My kids are 8 and 5.

I've been to the ER 3 times with each one. 1/2 of the times when they were around 6yo.

Baron Munchausen by Proxy, I presume?

How would you feel if a person with wine breath had to perform CPR on your child?

No.

2 very energetic boys, one with asthma.

You're a judgmental bitch, I conclude.

Anyone here recalls the post about how silent drowning is?[/quote]

Omg, now the glass of wine has turned into the children drowning...silently at that? So were they swimming in the pool too? I would take more of an issue with the parents allowing my child to swim outside in January. And if it's silent I'm fairly sure they wouldn't have heard it even if they were sober? Way to really take this off on a whole new tangent.

Incredibly grateful!

I wonder what Al-Anon would think about this. My sister was involved in getting someone into AA and the main reason given was "You can't take care of my children at night when you are drinking." Probably said she just had one drink???!!!!
