“True Safeties” that accept nearly every applicant but have retained great reputations?

Fordham and Bucknell? These schools aren’t realistic for an average applicant

Of course it's an easier admit. Who the f*** wants to live in Minnesota besides current residents?

Non-p*ssies who won’t let winter get in the way of living their lives?

Not afraid of winter, but I'd rather go to Vermont or Colorado. Better winter states by far. Better states by far actually.

OP didn't ask for safeties for "high stats kids." OP asked for safeties that "accept nearly every applicant." Just about everyone on this thread, with a few exceptions, has no reading comprehension.

Be kind. This process is challenging enough. Let’s find ways to be helpful and encouraging. There’s enough (opportunity) to go around.

New poster. Agreed but it isn't helpful or encouraging to call UVA or or Northeastern or even Fordham and Bucknell safeties. I don't care about the slight to the schools, I find it annoying that 1) those responses do not answer the question and 2) they are such transparently braggy posts about their own kids.

PSU UP does not accept nearly every applicant. They have like 100K applications, and accept maybe 55% to 60% of applicants.

Rutgers man campus also doesn’t have an acceptance rate I’d call a “safety”. The 70%+ rate is for all three campuses. Newark and Camden historically have much higher admit rates than NB, which US News reports is down to about 41%.

And both Rutgers and PSU are pricey OOS with little merit aid offered. I consider affordability, and not just admit rates, as part of what makes a true safety, but YMMV.

I’m not sure where US News got 41% from since Rutgers generally avoids publishing that data. They sent out an email last year saying the acceptance rate for Rutgers NB for fall 2025 was 56%. So still not a safety for everyone

U Buffalo - solid school and still an easy admit for most kids

My nephew was rejected from fordham. Decent (not too) grades from a small Catholic school outside the NE corridor with some decent ECs plus an under represented minority.

+1

Calling UVA a "safety" -- at least in a general context like this thread -- is downright absurd.

I’m not sure there’s a school today that accepts nearly every applicant yet retained a great reputation. Michigan State, Indiana, and Minnesota are probably your best bet. Maybe Elon and Drexel for the closest private school options?

And yes, agreed on UVA, Fordham, and Bucknell. Maybe safeties if you’re a Princeton, Columbia, or Penn bound student

Penn State is a safety of the "average" high achieving student.

28% of students submitted an SAT score. Only 37% were in the top 10% of their high school class.
25%-50%-75%
1280/1340/1410

If you have a 1400 or higher SAT and you are in the top 10% of your high school class you will be admitted.
