I’m an independent, but these ARE dirty tricks, no matter who is doing them. And the tricks and propaganda are coming from the left this time. I cannot believe the “restore fairness” wording on the actual official ballot.

This is wrong, no matter who is doing it. Vote no.

shut the F up. creating a mailer with Abigail’s picture telling voters to vote no — how is this even legal??

Because those, my dear, are her exact words. The quote is accurate.

For reference

This was back before we knew just how far Trump would go unchecked.

It’s 2026. It’s a different world.

OMG. This out of cycle gerrymandering is wrong in Texas, wrong in California, and wrong here. PP, you convinced me to vote No. Partisan hacks are to blame for all this nonsense.

You are letting DJT go unchecked. His future actions are on you.

Oh kwitcha guilt trip whining. It's going to pass because the Dem Pol Machine will make you think this will stop MAGA and DJT. It won't and you will see what you have sown.

You will regret this.

I will be pissed off but have a clean conscience.

You are voting that Trump should have unlimited power and do whatever TF he wants. Not sure you have a conscience.

DP. But, when other states gerrymander, it's not just a state issue. Congressional maps affect all of us. So, if Texas is going to gerrymander, CA voters voted to counter that action. To me, it's making the entire US more fair. Now, if Texas hadn't started it (and disenfranchised their voters) this thread wouldn't exit.

Except it’s too late for TX. They followed Trump’s demand and gerrymandered to give him 5 more seats. VA is just an effort to restore a modicum of balance. It’s easy to say no more gerrymandering once you’ve already gotten the gerrymandering to your advantage done.

Exactly

Who gives a shit about Texas?

We should be focused on protecting our state and its citizens which is why voting No is the only rational vote. NOVA yuppies are so incredibly self centered it’s insane.

So, clearly, you're fine with Texas and other red states FORCING it on voters.

🚨ALERT: Partisan, “Pink Slime” Newspaper on its Way to Virginia Voters🚨

Spread the word to alert your family, friends, & neighbors

A dark-money-funded newspaper masquerading as a neutral media outlet has been mailing copies of its Democrat-tilted news to thousands of Virginia voters’ homes ahead of the April 21 gerrymandering referendum.

The Virginia Independent, which also has a website, is an example of “pink slime” journalism – named after the fake hamburger meat – that is designed to look like a legitimate media outlet but pushes partisan frames and narratives. Voters see “Independent” in its name and assume that it is credible and unbiased. The newspaper and newsprint style promote the illusion.

In this case, TVI is peddling a YES-vote narrative about the referendum that portrays voting FOR the (10 Democrats-1 Republican) redrawn Virginia congressional map in a positive light. Its front-page subheading emphasizes responding to a “MAGA gerrymandering wave.” The inside article speaks of a Republican “attack on democracy.” The full back page describes the ballot question in glowing, reasonable-sounding terms.

The “ghost” referendum held in April, when no one is paying attention, is already confusing to voters. The ballot question asks voters to “restore fairness” without explaining its meaning: that Democrats would almost certainly win 10 of Virginia’s 11 congressional seats for the next *THREE* federal elections under the new Democrat-drawn, artfully gerrymandered map. It would deprive Virginia’s GOP counties -- and the U.S. House -- of four Republican seats for years.

So, will The Virginia Independent’s surreptitious support of the referendum influence harried voters who are not focused on state politics to check “Yes” and assist the Democrats in their reapportionment scheme?

Research suggests that voters may be wary of partisan mailers but are more receptive to sources that are perceived as credible, factual, independent, and informative. Other studies about news “framing effects” confirm that “changes in the presentation of an issue or an event produce (sometimes large) changes of opinion,” the Annual Review of Political Science reports.

The newspaper’s backers and writers certainly know this. Their narrative campaign is undoubtedly an attempt by supporters of the redrawn Democrat map to subtly persuade voters and evoke a positive image of the referendum as a “righteous” cause.

In addition, FULL transparency is missing. The newspaper’s return address is in Washington, D.C. It's from The American Independent Foundation, which, according to InfluenceWatch, “supports liberal investigative journalism to foster ‘increased public awareness of progressive issues.’ AIF is part of a network of left-of-center media outlets managed by liberal activist David Brock.”

The newspaper is stamped with “non-profit org” postage. AIF “is a public charity with assets of $13,457,553,” the grant platform Instrumentl declares.

InfluenceWatch also indicates that AIF holds the tax-exempt status of 501(c)(3). The IRS search website confirms that it is a “public charity.” Nonprofit charities are prohibited from engaging in politically partisan advocacy.

Propaganda-style framing to win support for a 10D-1R Virginia map certainly helps Democrat candidates over Republicans, but whether that runs afoul of nonprofit restrictions would be up to the IRS to determine.

In the meantime, Virginians should alert their families, friends, neighbors, churches, and communities NOT to fall for what amounts to the latest “pink slime,” progressive PSYOP.

I’m voting no. Can’t believe I’m saying that but I am so sick and tired of trump but now more disappointed at our local democrats. They want to force a casino in Fairfax when we have told the state no for years. Now they want us to vote yes so that folks in rural Va can lose their voice. I have no idea what the democrats have become and I won’t support it. They are as dirty as trump but hide what their intentions are. Until they show me they actually are listening to their constituents, they have lost my support.

All their constituents are now saying to stop playing fair, and instead play to win.

The “When they go low, we go high era” is over. Thank god.

Scott Surovell says that he IS listening to his constituents. We asked for more funding for schools, he is giving us a casino. We need to be clearer when we ask for things. Apparently, this is our fault.

So if this horrendous thing passes, the Democrat politicians in VA can redraw the map whenever they want to.
How long before they erase the single Republican district they have in their proposed power grab?

It will be necessary to restore fairness. Say goodbye to that Republican district.

I voted for Hillary and Kamala and what did that accomplish? A pro forma vote is self gratifying but may be futile. Adding 5 seats is not going to stop Maga senators and Trumpers.

Fine or not fine whatcha gonna do move there or do voter fraud? Those states can force it because of who got elected to state offices.

Just admit it, you really have no idea what you are talking about. Republicans may be trying to catch up, but this has long been a Democrat play.

Tell me, what color is the sky in this made-up world of yours?

Not made up: Virginia Democrats claim, like children, that since Trump “started it” by calling on Texas to change their maps, Democrats should retaliate by changing their maps, too. But this argument ignores two facts. First, before Texas moved to change its map, the states with the most gerrymandered maps were all Democratic. Despite only 55% of voters choosing Democrats in 2024, 82% of Illinois House seats went to Democrats. In California, 83% of House seats were under Democratic control while Democrats only got 59% of the vote statewide. In New Jersey, 75% of House seats belong to Democrats, while the party secured only 52% of the seats statewide. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/4490894/abigail-spanbergers-redistricting-fairness-farce/

Wrong again. Republicans benefit far more from gerrymandering than Democrats do, accounting for somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20 extra seats relative to what you'd expect from vote share: http://ippsr.msu.edu/partisan-advantage-tracker?sort=double_bonus#data

I'm really curious what color the sky is in your world, because it's not the same as the one everyone else lives in. Or do you just never get tired of lying?

Abigail Spanberger said it's wrong and to vote no. That's what she wants us to do, her own words.

Fck Republicans. They gave us Trump. They don’t deserve a voice.
