For this meet (and not uncommon for others as well) D/E/F are for 16 and under swimmers only. To encourage development.

Thanks makes sense, so A B and C must be mostly 17+ yr olds

For the boys, yeah, mostly. For the girls, there are as many 15/16 girls as 17/18 in A/B/C. One F final had a swimmer who was 70th place in the morning, which seems like too much.

It is also because two meets were combined. JR/Sr which would attract younger teens to one and older/faster to the other. If they didn't do it then very few young kids would have the finals experience.

Thanks forgot two meets were combined

This isn’t really true. There are plenty of 15-16 year olds making the A-C finals. Just scanning tonight’s men’s finals, about 1/3 of the top 24 in each event are 16 and under. For girls age matters even less at this point. Hell, there is going to be a core group of 13-14 year old girls at AG champs next week who could easily place top 24 at Open champs.

Most of the swimmers in my kid’s group are doing 2-3 events or skipping it altogether. So if you tighten up the cuts too much, you aren’t getting enough of the kids who really want to be there or who are hunting cuts.

Maybe the bonus events should go, but otherwise, this meet kinda is what it is going to be. I’m not sure there is a way to make this meaningful.

And most other LSCs don’t exist in areas where the high school season is so meaningful. The private school kids grinded through weeks of championship meets and are prepping for bigger meets. The public school kids are coming off state champs. None of these kids care about this meet and they are mentally and physically trying to recharge.

lol. At least in MD, public school state champs are a side show. Nobody gaf. And no private school kids "grinded" through anything. I guess metros was a grind with the weather and the crappy venue/timeline. Why don't they have this at UMD or Fairland?? Instead of in a shoebox? That place sucks. No space, no cell signal, zero degrees and blowing snow.

Obviously they make the event (this week) appealing and accessible enough to pay for it. Because they have to pay for it. Renting UMd so all of your 8 kids (apparently all ringer parents bloviate here) can battle in just an A final with no prelim will mean a high cost to you for Muffy and Blaise to claim their PV SC titles.

If you do not have finals experience by the time you are 15 then it may be time to find a new sport because high level swimming is not happening for you. What is the point of giving a “young kid” finals experience at the age of 15 if they are not going to need it at the big boy meets? They are never making those meets if they are just breaking through for the first time here. If they are the exception, then they will get more relevant finals experience at meets like the KLI or Metros where finals feel like finals, not a session fast swimmers scratch allowing 70th place finishers to swim at night

Harsh, but no lies detected. I remember one year at LC champs the last place swimmer from prelims got a chance to swim at night because they were at the young end of the age group and that just seemed ridiculous. Having the 70th place finisher make finals is unnecessary and dilutes the meet.

Meet delayed?
Anonymous
Warmups delayed an hour because there was a power outage last night.

Where did you hear this? We heard nothing from our coach

Our coach sent an email but it is also now posted on the meet website. Warmups begin at 8 and I guess the whole prelims timeline is pushed back and hour.

Thank you!

Does anybody know if we can pay our way into the basketball courts below the spectator entrance level?

The meet is the swimsitting championship. It is for the family’s who subsidize the majority of each club’s payroll for the top. You need a forum to let these swimmers feel part of the team, feel part of group, and to justify that thousand of dollars and hours spent each year chasing the gold are really worth it.

I think it’s more the opposite. Jr Champs gave finals opportunities to the older kids that aren’t as competitive. And besides, the fast younger kids already have plenty of finals experience by the time they’re at open champs.
