+1 very much agree |
They might not but I’ve taught my kids not to hurt people. I have consistently told my kids are kind and one in high school shuts down bullies when they start ridiculing someone. |
Well, the question wasn’t “do an overview of political misdeeds.” The question was present day do you hold your children to a higher standard than the current sitting president who, unlike past presidents, sends out voluminous amounts of harmful BS that all children are currently witnessing, absorbing, and digesting. How we as parents currently react to current presidential crap has an impact on our current children. |
OK, but “present day” just means 2025? Or 2016 when current high school seniors were nine— old enough to understand that the democratic candidate for president (and sitting secretary or state) was calling sexual assault survivors “crazy women”. Sounds honestly like something Trump would say. Again, no fan of Trump, but our politicians aren’t role models for our kids. Maybe they should be— I hope they can be— but I think its a mistake to ask conservatives if they hold their kids to a higher standard than their candidates without making darn sure liberals do too. |
Anyone who thinks a modern day GOP or Dem politician can be an appropriate role model for their children is a complete and utter idiot. They have too much obligation to please their wealthy donors to have time for being a role model to children. |
Many kids today from all walks of life and families of various political views are often disrespectful to adults and peers. |
The OP and many others on this thread have no intention of doing so. There are plenty of disgusting politicians on the Democrat side of the aisle. There were also some recent Democratic presidents whose behaviors were reprehensible (Clinton, Kennedy, Johnson), but you'll never hear anyone on DCUM complain because they agree with their accomplishments. |
They don’t have to be role models to have an influence. He’s the president for crying out loud. And he’s not shy about spewing his crap incessantly. That’s the reality. I’m not the op but start another thread asking liberals the same question if it matters so much to you. This question was about what’s happening with this president, who just spewed the R word in writing for the entire world to see. It’s eminently fair to ask if you would expect better of your children. |
I see nothing but people agreeing that Clinton is a scumbag. If he’s in the files, let those chips fall. But the difference remains that these presidents didn’t tweet offensive garbage on the regular. |
lol... I'll take Clinton any day, all day over the crap that has been in The White House since 2017. |
I’d take anyone. The bar is so shockingly low. |
Your kids. Your kids language is terrible. It’s a reflection of their upbringing. |
Was. It was a liberal forum. And still is on an my post that requires an intelligent and nuanced argument. But otherwise it’s boys and trolls galore. I miss the old (mostly intelligent) DCUM. |
That’s not answering the question. If your child called someone “piggy” would you be ok with it? I would not. |
Sigh. Can’t we do better? Sure I loved the world in my 20s when Clinton was President bit he abused his power to have sec with women and his crackdown on marijuana rather than go after the actual drug kingpins was cruel. Why do we keep looking back? I’m a progressive and by definition I want to move forward. |
