+1 very much agree

Well, the question wasn’t “do an overview of political misdeeds.” The question was present day do you hold your children to a higher standard than the current sitting president who, unlike past presidents, sends out voluminous amounts of harmful BS that all children are currently witnessing, absorbing, and digesting. How we as parents currently react to current presidential crap has an impact on our current children.

OK, but “present day” just means 2025? Or 2016 when current high school seniors were nine— old enough to understand that the democratic candidate for president (and sitting secretary or state) was calling sexual assault survivors “crazy women”. Sounds honestly like something Trump would say.

Again, no fan of Trump, but our politicians aren’t role models for our kids. Maybe they should be— I hope they can be— but I think its a mistake to ask conservatives if they hold their kids to a higher standard than their candidates without making darn sure liberals do too.

Anyone who thinks a modern day GOP or Dem politician can be an appropriate role model for their children is a complete and utter idiot. They have too much obligation to please their wealthy donors to have time for being a role model to children.

They don’t have to be role models to have an influence. He’s the president for crying out loud. And he’s not shy about spewing his crap incessantly. That’s the reality.

I’m not the op but start another thread asking liberals the same question if it matters so much to you. This question was about what’s happening with this president, who just spewed the R word in writing for the entire world to see. It’s eminently fair to ask if you would expect better of your children.

I agree with you on the question. And, my answer is yes.

And, if my kids responded to the question as has been done here, I’d question their grasp of the world.

Thank you for addressing the actual question and not defending this behavior. It seems those who voted for Trump can't bring themselves to say that the behavior is inappropriate. I suppose it does reflect on the kind of person who would do so, and how they must carry themselves in other areas of their lives.

Given how few conservatives visit this site, this thread has quite a few conservative posters condemning Trump's words and behavior.

Are you kidding? This site is overrun with Trumpy trolls.

Not overrun. It's a very liberal forum.

Was. It was a liberal forum. And still is on an my post that requires an intelligent and nuanced argument. But otherwise it’s boys and trolls galore. I miss the old (mostly intelligent) DCUM.

The only thing I see here in the nuanced argument department is worming your way out responsibility and saying the other side is worse.

And on the title thread: there are five family members in Joe Biden's family that went to rehab. Don't just tell me about a distant Bill Clinton being a problem.

I seem to recall Hunter Biden banging his dead brother's widow and attempting to get out of responsibility of multiple felonies with the help of David Weiss, until a judge say no way to the plea deal. There's also Joe Biden's influence peddling (that would be selling presidential decisions for bribes), laundering money for the Biden family, getting an IRS investigation shut down when things got too hot, etc.

Democrats - don't tell me how your sheet doesn't stink. You are as dirty as they come and lunchbucket Joe was right at the top of it.

Your whataboutism is irrelevant. This thread is about kids saying the r-word and other slurs. Unlike MAGA, Democrats haven’t made bullying their entire personality. There is no equivalent politician on the left who mocks the disabled, constantly calls women piggy and ugly, etc. Trump does nothing but insult people. A lot of his young supporters admire him for that. They don’t know anything about corruption, but they like the way he can say outrageous things without consequences. It’s the ultimate adolescent male power fantasy.

“But Democrats did X Y and Z ten years ago” is just an attempt to distract from the thread topic, because you can’t defend this behavior and you refuse to condemn it.

The fact that Trump and Biden are clearly the worst two presidents in our lifetimes is actually something 99% of us will agree on with the other 1% being the bottom of the barrel of intelligence. This being said; the only truly awful thing Joe Biden did himself was gifting Trump an easy path to victory in the 2024 election so let's not make false equivalencies.

He’s doubling down on his use of the R word.

Anonymous
And so will his defenders, then. Hell, even here people are willfully ignoring the R word and almost solely focusing on piggy and ugly.

The OP and many others on this thread have no intention of doing so. There are plenty of disgusting politicians on the Democrat side of the aisle. There were also some recent Democratic presidents whose behaviors were reprehensible (Clinton, Kennedy, Johnson), but you'll never hear anyone on DCUM complain because they agree with their accomplishments.

Good lord you are dumb and missing the point.

Democrats don’t have to answer this question because their presidents weren’t doing things that kids aren’t allowed to do. Pretty sure very few kids are married and cheating on their spouse. The entire point of the question is that a.Trump behaves like a child but also b. His behavior, which has exact parallels in a child, would not be tolerated by their parents or by a school

There is no way a rational human can defend a president calling people the things Trump does

As another poster put it, he has made bullying his entire personality

Conservatives: you are honestly going to stand here and say that is ok for Trump and not for your own kids?

Politicians have been doing sh*tty things on both sides since the dawn of time. But to lean so hard into being a bad person when the vast majority of people are trying to raise good humans seems like an insane reach for idolatry even for Trump fans

LOL. Look at you proving OP’s point.

The thing that’s stands out unfavorably with Trump against all past R and D presidents (not including his crown or diarrhea videos) is that he hasn’t ever extended sympathy or empathy to any group. All past presidents have upheld a standard of decency in the wake of tragedy.

Can you imagine if Bush had blamed Biden for 9/11 or talked about how great he was or fundraising, while the world was mourning. Trump didn’t have one thoughtful or empathetic thing to say to the victims of the DC plane crash that was caused by his administration.

We’ve never seen this before, and it’s appalling.

Meanwhile, democrats assassinate political adversaries and cry about empathy.

I've been very disappointed by previous administrations which act statesmanlike while things are on fire.

I really don't GAS what the complaints are against Trump's attitudes anymore.

Democrats arrested him, raided his house with a swat team, tried to get him removed from the ballot in several states, and instituted all manner of lawfare against him and his family.

They went after his lawyers and everyone has a right to representation.

Bottom line: Democrats salted the ground with poison. It was so satisfying to you when they did that. So stop complaining. You deserve exactly what you are getting. It's too late to turn back now.

HE BROKE THE LAW. Holding him accountable is not lawfare.

Things were not great, but Trump is actively making them worse.

And there's no reason he can't enact policy while behaving with a modicum of respect for the office he holds.

You're a moron and a despicable human being.
