I would be mortified if my kids spoke or acted like Trump, but I would also be mortified if my son behaved like Clinton (including speaking about sexual assault victims the way HRC did, while Secretary of State) I don’t consider that a double standard in my parenting, I consider it an indictment of most of our political class these days (would have no problem with my kids speaking like Carter, Obama, or even either or the Bush Presidents)

+1 very much agree

Well, the question wasn’t “do an overview of political misdeeds.” The question was present day do you hold your children to a higher standard than the current sitting president who, unlike past presidents, sends out voluminous amounts of harmful BS that all children are currently witnessing, absorbing, and digesting. How we as parents currently react to current presidential crap has an impact on our current children.

OK, but “present day” just means 2025? Or 2016 when current high school seniors were nine— old enough to understand that the democratic candidate for president (and sitting secretary or state) was calling sexual assault survivors “crazy women”. Sounds honestly like something Trump would say.

Again, no fan of Trump, but our politicians aren’t role models for our kids. Maybe they should be— I hope they can be— but I think its a mistake to ask conservatives if they hold their kids to a higher standard than their candidates without making darn sure liberals do too.

Anyone who thinks a modern day GOP or Dem politician can be an appropriate role model for their children is a complete and utter idiot. They have too much obligation to please their wealthy donors to have time for being a role model to children.

You back again? No, I don't buy this both sides here. There are plenty of Dems who are role models for our children, starting with Sen. Chris Van Hollen. Ditto Rep. Lauren Underwood. Heck, even Rep. Don Bacon, a NE Republican, was very good on the Sunday chat circuit.

I did not vote for Trump and am not a trump supporter.

Thank you for addressing the actual question and not defending this behavior. It seems those who voted for Trump can't bring themselves to say that the behavior is inappropriate. I suppose it does reflect on the kind of person who would do so, and how they must carry themselves in other areas of their lives.

Given how few conservatives visit this site, this thread has quite a few conservative posters condemning Trump's words and behavior.

Are you kidding? This site is overrun with Trumpy trolls.

Not overrun. It's a very liberal forum.

Was. It was a liberal forum. And still is on an my post that requires an intelligent and nuanced argument. But otherwise it’s boys and trolls galore. I miss the old (mostly intelligent) DCUM.

The only thing I see here in the nuanced argument department is worming your way out responsibility and saying the other side is worse.

And on the title thread: there are five family members in Joe Biden's family that went to rehab. Don't just tell me about a distant Bill Clinton being a problem.

I seem to recall Hunter Biden banging his dead brother's widow and attempting to get out of responsibility of multiple felonies with the help of David Weiss, until a judge say no way to the plea deal. There's also Joe Biden's influence peddling (that would be selling presidential decisions for bribes), laundering money for the Biden family, getting an IRS investigation shut down when things got too hot, etc.

Democrats - don't tell me how your sheet doesn't stink. You are as dirty as they come and lunchbucket Joe was right at the top of it.

Please share your cites for all these charges.

Trump is the first president I’ve ever felt uncomfortable about letting my kids listen to, or letting them directly read his tweets and his quotes. He’s a PG-13 president. (Or NC-17, depending on whether you include Epstein, Stormy Daniels, and grabbing them by the p*ssy. See? You can’t even quote him here without bleeping him out.)

It’s not even that he’s potty-mouthed and venal - lots of powerful politicians cuss and have affairs - but that his “messages” to the American people consist largely of insults and cheap playground slurs. I tell my kids never to use those words, only to have them hear them come out of the president’s mouth. Talk about mixed messages.

I’m going to say zero back, this is just actually the thing that most baffles me about trump voters

Conservatives don’t have standards for their own genetic carriers, only for others. That’s the defining property of conservatism, as highlighted in the “moral circles” research and memes.

My in-laws are super Catholic and Fox still persuaded them that Joe Biden, a very good Catholic man who lost his wife and daughter in a car accident and lost a son to cancer ... was a bad man.

And they instead voted for the greedy atheist who cheated on all his wives. My MIL once said to my daughter when she was younger, "you know, I think Donald Trump is a very good man."

WHY? Why is he a good man?

How could anyone with any common sense come to this conclusion? I don't get it, except that they've been convinced over time that Democrats any day now are going to move brown people into their suburban home like Dr. Zhivago and tell them "this is too much space for just one family!" Or something.

I really don't recognize them anymore. I haven't recognized them as the same people I met 40 years ago in the last decade.

I know of zero smart people who would describe Trump as a "very good man".

That’s a super sad trajectory. For your in-laws, I hope the new Pope helps them see how troubling their “Trump hero worshiping” is for someone who calls themself Catholic or a person who follows the teachings of Jesus.

If my in-laws or parents aid this to my kids, I’d ask them to name a few things Trump has done that demonstrate being a good man. I’d ask them if they want their grandchildren marrying a person like Trump. Then, I’d continue to have conversations with my kids about what moral character and healthy relationships looks like.

I don't impose any politician's standards on my kids, ever. The standards that we set for our kids come from our family, our faith, our traditions. Regardless who is in what office, it should not impact on the upbringing of any child. I truly hope none of democrats set a Hunter Biden standard for their children.

To judge a character of the person, look at their children. They were raised by this person. Between Biden kids and Trump kids, some of them were raised by a good man, and some of them were not.
