Lol. It really does. |
All kinds of people love well-crafted and fashionable purses and all kinds of people love reading Vogue. People who assume otherwise are "probably pretty dumb." And probably don't know many people. |
The "fact that you are not interested in purses" isn't the part of your post that reveals pretty obvious reverse snobbery. |

I love purses and have been collecting for over 20 years. I like all kinds of variety whether the Row and Chanel to Longchamp and the Lug line which is great for travel. I generally have about a 2K limit unless it’s a brand like Chanel.
What’s different now vs then is the emergence of resale market online. I’ve only bought 2 Chanel bags in store and the rest on resale market so haven’t spent more than 5K on a Chanel bag. These days not only with prices on Chanel but other lines like Loewe, Bottega, etc. are easily reaching 5K. I don’t have Hermes bags but a friend of mine who loves bags said with the price points these days she pivoted to Hermes. Problem is playing the game to get offered a QB bag. I have a hard time spending a lot of money when the vintage bags on the resale market for some designer brands are much cheaper and better quality then now. I have a lot of Tods bags from mid 2000s and have found some in great condition online for a few hundred dollars these past years. |
I think OP is trying to be a reverse snob, but really just comes across as clueless. It’s fine to not be into $3k handbags just as it’s fine to not be into $100k paintings or $10k business class airplane seats or $1k bottles of wine or whatever luxury item you want to insert here. There are big markets for all these things and I think it is pretty obvious why they’re appealing. I don’t participate in the luxury market for (paintings, wine, business class seats) because (1) these things are not in my budget naturally and (2) I’m not interested enough in them to reprioritize my spending to accommodate them. I’d rather spend the money on a nice bag. It’s kind of odd to be asking whether it’s unusual not to care about $3k bags. It’s personal preference. Many people do, even if not on DCUM, because these luxury brands are doing extremely well. |
| No. I don’t care about purses because I am not a dullard. |
