Do you care about $3k purses?

I prefer lightweight, non leather, large bags…Longchamps, MZ Wallace have been just fine.

The late Nora Ephron carried a Metrocard bag.

Yes! For my everyday, boring life, nothing beats an MZ Wallace bag – lightweight, pockets for everything, wears well, and most are nondescript. I like my invisibility. Nobody stops to wonder if my bag is fake and neither does anyone think there might be something worth stealing.

I’ll take note of a beautiful bag, but prefer minimal to nonexistent branding. Like a similar PP, I’d be irked if I dropped any bag into a puddle. Yuck.

I always assume they have been stolen and resold on the secondary market.

Hey everyone had something that they are into so no big deal if someone likes that. Other people like trips, some people own a motorcycle, some people buy new furniture every couple of years. It’s a hobby

I don’t care about name brands. I’m an adult and don’t feel the need to impress people.

Same. Seems like a huge waste of money. If you are spending more than that on a purse, you are doing it for the status and nothing else. It’s a purely functional item. Unless the expensive purse is Hermione’s magic bag, there is nothing that a $1000 purse can do that a $50, $100 purse can’t.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. There is nothing a $1000 purse can do for you, but I will tell you there are some beautifully crafted purses by luxury shops you've never heard of that are worth $1000, and you can tell the difference in quality. I'm not talking about an LV neverfull bag.

Do you feel this way about someone who buys an expensive house? Goes on a nice vacation?

+1. If someone has the money, why do other people care how they spend it.

I wear expensive clothes. Not because it's an ego trip, but because they are more beautiful and well made. Same thing with a purse.

Most people think DC has bad fashion, and this thread explains it.

MZ Wallace is the Vera Bradley of our generation. No thank you por moi.

I would rather carry an LL Bean Boat Tote, or a leather crossbody by some obscure French or Italian brand, bought on holiday in Tuscany or Saint Tropez

I used to care and loved my expensive purses but then they became too expensive $2K is now $4K+. Now I’m more likely to buy a $500 bag from Staud or Veronica Beard, Rag & Bone, Mansur Gavriel

The expensive ones I bought because I liked them and could easily afford them - I didn’t save up for them, or go into debt for them, or forego savings or investments or otherwise sacrificing for them. They are not any better than the $200 purses, quality-wise, and I think most people probably wouldn’t clock that they are $3k or afford me any status because of them. I just bought them because I liked them, could afford them, and decided to treat myself. I think you're overthinking this, OP. It’s not that serious.

+1000 this
And there are people a lot wealthier than I am who think this exact way about handbags that aren’t in my budget. And that’s okay - I’m probably never going to have tech billionaire F you money.
As for OP and all the other hypocritical reverse snobs on this post, you all sound petty and jealous. Deluding yourselves that you’re opting out of this chain isn’t bestowing any moral high ground upon you all. Meanwhile someone else making far less than you is looking at your $120 bag (or other spending that you either think nothing of or justify to yourself as being HiGh QuALiTy) and thinking that it seems like an unreasonable luxury.

If I see a designer bag, I'll notice it -- but if the person doesn't seem to be wealthy, I will tend to assume the bag is a fake or that the person is paying way too much money to try to look like they are someone else.

I would say that my bag choices reflect my lifestyle. Practical and quality-oriented. My family pours money into education, and we are not rich.

It is human nature to judge m, but you really don’t have any business of assuming.

Yes. Once you pay the private school tuition, not much is left for bags.

You definitely don’t have a kid at a top private. Many, many women at private school events are carrying incredibly expensive bags (and jewelry, cars, etc).

Agreed. My god. And these are people self selecting to comment on the beauty and fashion board!

I personally don’t prefer logos and monogrammed pieces, but I can appreciate how others love the look. No need to judge and no need to care. As long as everyone is happy spending the $$ on whatever floats his/her boat. I only take issue when ppl spend the $$ then complain about how expensive something is or they put it away in a closet to collect dust. There are far more better options to invest in than fashion. It is only worth it when you wear it because it is supposed to bring you (not others) joy.

I am glad no one recognizes my bags when I am out and about in this area. I don’t want or need them to. Those are my bags for me to carry not for them to gawk and judge.

My feelings exactly. I spend less on clothing because my size has changed over the years. I still wear a nice purse I bought in college. Makes sense to spend more on purses, etc., because they will always fit.
