Well, the most brilliant Americans will flee elsewhere. But you seem focused on being anti-foreign, so don't you worry, because the real foreign talent only moves to and contributes to societies that are free and hospitable to science. So they're probably not going to be knocking on US doors in the future. |
It is seriously depressing how well these talking points work on people. |
The US is a failed state. I'd rather have scientists go to countries that believe in science, than stay here. |
| $57 billion says it all and don’t pay property taxes. Harvard’s got a great gig. |
How does destroying Harvard help anyone? And the funding is cut across the board not just from Harvard. |
Asking a federal funded institution to stay apolitical and non-racist is NOT destroying them!!! |
It is not a federally funded institution. institutions compete for research grants and are awarded research grants based on the science, not based on some political ideology you're trying to impose. Or at least that's the way it should be. When you remove that, it is destructive. |
| Focus on training US citizens and giving rural and city kids a chance. The US imports way too much foreign talent. |
The research itself may not be political, but they use the freed up cash to political stuff and become entitled to it. So now they need to lose the entitlement and fund their own research. |
And again... If you don't like the science research being conducted at Harvard, then send your kid to a different institution to learn about science. If you want to eat barbecued ribs, don't go to a pizzeria, go to a barbecued rib place. You're walking into the barbecued rib place and trying to force them to make pizza, which is a waste of your time and energy and you're not even going to get good pizza. |
It's not their own research. It belongs to the funders. And lots of other institutions do taxpayer-funded research. |
Then what are you complaining about? The research owners want to stop hiring them to do this. |
The decision was made decades ago to have various academic institutions perform research for the government, rather than building more and more National labs. As many have mentioned, NSF, NIH, DOD, National labs etc keep tight reins on the research. There is collaboration with the National labs but this is a way to expand and multiply scientific research. Is that what you would prefer? More government labs? Or just let our leading position go in scientific research? Science is an engine not an anchor and if we don’t feed it with PhD candidates it will slowly grind to a halt. |
What if your contractor/employee has been plotting to go against your very own interest or promoting something you believe is a total BS? Cut the ties of course. |
| Conservatives 100% believe in DEI. Just look up EPSCoR. |
