Does every showcase/tournament have to have a million D1 college coaches to be of value? October isn't even a traditional showcase month. Do you know the history of WAGS?

It says that it’s a “showcase” and even calls itself that, lol. Only 10 coaches watching the entire tournament? Is that true?

It's clearly called WAGS Rael Vodicka Tournament. All teams are in the middle of their fall league season U14 and under. Older age groups are either in league season or in HS season. Either way, this isn't a normal showcase time of year, so I'm not sure why that would be the expectation. That's the reason why you don't see many top teams in the older brackets. U14 and under is strong though. For those in the know, ECNL in all of their money grabbing glory started hosting a showcase for U12-U14 during the same weekend. Only VDA is missing from this tournament locally. I believe Bethesda was in last year as well. Teams like PDA, Delco, Ukies, Maryland United, and the likes would join if they weren't traveling all the way to Wilmington to play friendlies.

Shhhhh. You are ruining the narrative.

Playing friendlies? lol. There aren’t any “top” teams or clubs participating. Name one.

Have fun droppping $500 on hotels for your kids to play sub standard U11 PENCL teams in NC. In hurricane force winds. ECNL dropped the ball on this fake showcase. A u11-U14 event is in no way a showcase, it is a honey money pot

Who is down there that you couldn't catch in a pre season tournament? VDA 2012 is in a flight with Concorde Fire, Wilmington, Maryland United, Alabama FC, Atlanta Fire, Scorpions SC, and NC Fusion. That's two conference opponents and a team close enough to play a weekend friendly with in MD United. The top flight would've been justifiable if not for the weather, but even then there's the same comp if not better in the top flight of WAGS. The 2013s have good comp in theirs, but the WAGS comp is stronger, so why not just stay home and see how you stack up.

I'm pissed about my daughter's b team's bracket. It's not competitive at all and teams we regularly play are placed low as well. We all want wins; but being on a top team playing third teams is embarrassing. I looked and our second team that is top 10 in our state is playing top 30 in their state teams. We'll clean sweep all 3 teams in our and group but it's a waste of our time paying for hotels for this tournament.

Look on the bright side, Revolution's top team in one age group is in the 5th bracket. Must be some "national team" that one.

I love the history of this tournament. Throwback to a time when female players didn’t have as many options and before money ruined youth sports.

Yes. Let’s go back to that time! So ignorant.

Which are group? Don’t see any REV team in the 5th bracket. Fact check?

Point is that it’s great that it’s still around in spite of all the competition (now rooted in money, not mission).

This. Money grab by NOVA clubs is disgusting. Have to pay those rec level coaches well and call it travel.

Speaking from a FC Delco perspective, the cup bracket is not better especially since we played several of those teams already THIS SEASON (and we're in same flights as several others). The first game is against GSA (a top 25 ranked team in the country). Other potential matchups after that aren't great, but the ECNL NJ event had even more of the same teams we play regularly. This is the only "travel" tournament of the fall for the team and last year provided a perfect early season team bonding location right on the beach. It sucks the weather will prevent that this year, but most parents are happy with the event choice.

(Random aside, I can't believe our RL team is placed that high)

Looks like GA is cooking ECNL in the 2013 age group

looks like the results are about what to be expected? Rankings app takes a lot of drama out of these stupid debates now
