shouldn't national level teams be in the cup flight?
either these teams are really bad, or club is going for easy wins (and social posts) Name Division Northern Virginia Alliance 13G GA U13 CUP Flight Springfield SYC Soccer 13G GA U13 CUP Flight Arlington Soccer Association Arlington SA 2013G ECNL U13 CUP Flight Fairfax Virginia Union Fairfax VA Union ECNL 13 Girls U13 CUP Flight McLean YS 13G GA U13 A Flight Alexandria SA 13G GA U13 C Flight Virginia Revolution SC 13G GA U13 C Flight Loudoun Soccer Club 13G GA U13 D Flight Alexandria SA 12G GA U14 CUP Flight Arlington Soccer Association Arlington SA 2012G ECNL U14 CUP Flight Fairfax Virginia Union Fairfax Virginia Union 12 Girls U14 CUP Flight Springfield SYC Soccer 12G GA U14 CUP Flight Northern Virginia Alliance 12G GA U14 A Flight Loudoun Soccer Club 12G GA U14 C Flight McLean YS 12G GA U14 C Flight Virginia Revolution SC 12G GA U14 C Flight The St. James Football Club 12G GA U14 K Flight Fairfax Virginia Union Fairfax Virginia Union ECNL 11 U15 CUP Flight Springfield SYC Soccer 11GA U15 CUP Flight Virginia Revolution SC 11G GA U15 A Flight Alexandria SA 11G GA U15 C Flight |
the FVU game is gonna be rough for them for sure. |
| WAGS is SO bad. They have about ten D3 colleges listed as attending and several of the coaches they have listed are not even at the school they are listed for. Why would anyone participate in this tournament? |
I only know the 2013G group and it's the right teams in the top flight (and even some of them aren't that great). No one from the lower groups belongs. |
Agree though C/D are too low for those GA teams (played a lot of them in Jeff Cup last year, don't know the current teams well) - Definitely not top flight, but could easily be in A/B. |
Think you also have to remember they are trying to split up the local teams so they get to play teams not in their league and/or teams not in the area. But do agree the flights have some flaws. For the 2011s, the Cup flight seems solid although I’m skeptical of the Toronto team. A flight has a several flaws. I would have moved McLean, Nationals and Inter Atlanta up from B flight and dropped Maryland Rush, Tri State and Richmond Orange. Alexandria should be in B flight for Arlington White. |
Does every showcase/tournament have to have a million D1 college coaches to be of value? October isn't even a traditional showcase month. Do you know the history of WAGS? |
It says that it’s a “showcase” and even calls itself that, lol. Only 10 coaches watching the entire tournament? Is that true? |
Says the person driving to NC to play terrible teams |
Other than maybe 2 age groups the rest don’t care about colleges yet. |
Huh? |
Then don't go. Tell your kid it is a waste of her time and keep her home. If she isn't playing in the tournament there's no need to comment, is there? |
some coaches have multiple teams entered with multiple chances of a photo op with a trophy/cup. Only head scratcher is FVU sending all of their girls vs the feeder club’s sending all of their RL girls. It kinda crowds out the RL chances at cup level games. |
Are you one of the club reps who makes these stupid decisions? Hoping to win some games so your DD gets her participation trophy? |
It's clearly called WAGS Rael Vodicka Tournament. All teams are in the middle of their fall league season U14 and under. Older age groups are either in league season or in HS season. Either way, this isn't a normal showcase time of year, so I'm not sure why that would be the expectation. That's the reason why you don't see many top teams in the older brackets. U14 and under is strong though. For those in the know, ECNL in all of their money grabbing glory started hosting a showcase for U12-U14 during the same weekend. Only VDA is missing from this tournament locally. I believe Bethesda was in last year as well. Teams like PDA, Delco, Ukies, Maryland United, and the likes would join if they weren't traveling all the way to Wilmington to play friendlies. |
