ECNL throwing down the hammer scheduling on the same weekend

No dog in this fight for now, but isn’t this actually stupid?

If I’m an ECNL parent, wouldn’t I rather want every opportunity to play teams I don’t normally that are objectively good and still have an ECNL event as well with ya know, more good teams?

Any league that silos itself off is really just hurting itself by offering a lesser product IMO given the fragmented nature of the system already.

I don't think its a "throwing down the hammer" situation. There is so much more that goes into planning these events that have nothing to do with trying to screw each other out of teams. They don't care at all about that, only people on anonymous forums think it is intentional.

Thoughts on the logic of 2014g teams playing up in 2013g brackets? I know getting some early experience at 11v11 may give a short-term advantage at the beginning of the next year but doesn’t it come at the cost of individual player development? A lot less time on the ball in games for each individual player at 11v11 on a full field than at 9v9 on a half-field.

C'mon man...put the ECNL hat down for a minute. When planning an event.... WAGS historically been around or at same time for YEARS... This is clearly intentional.

Agree, but it's not just the ECNL tournament. There's only 20 teams from u13 AG. There's several other ECNL teams choosing other tournaments over WAGS compared to years past.

Why was I thinking this was referring to some sort of online competition between the wives and girlfriends? 😆

Looks to be a watered down tourney this year. Very sad to see that top teams are avoiding it this year. This used to be a great mid-season tournament.

Which top teams are avoiding it? I have noticed that it's becoming less and less prominent each year for several years. are the NJ and PA teams coming?

If it is intentional it ruins the "ain't skeered" narrative so many parents here bleat on about.

Thanks for sharing brackets and link limits

fyi - 24 hour soft ban for posting 2 links in close succession. Not exactly a big deal since my phone has a diff IP and oh damn can't access DCUM from my laptop, but in case anyone is wondering.

From Philly - I don't think it's avoiding as much as there are more options now. Also this weekend was a traditional "holiday weekend" but a lot of schools are in session on Monday with Columbus Day not being observed in a lot of places.
