Harvard no longer allowed to enroll international students

60% of all graduate students are from outside the UK, as are 21% of all undergraduates.

Stats from Oxford’s web site.

They’re already in the world top five.
US is just going to keep falling, but go ahead and celebrate.
-Not a fan of Harvard, but not a fan of intentionally destroying science and medicine research either

ANd that's exactly what every moron celebrating this doesn't understand. They never had a chance at getting into Harvard, but they WERE benefiting from all of the advances that Harvard is responsible for.

Exactly.

I don't think it's crazy that a research institution that's heavily funded by the U.S. government prioritizes US students and researchers. That being said, no internationals at all is overkill.

It’s the same for all of the top schools of public health, and it’s a really good thing. Those people spend a few years here (1 for some masters, up to 6 for PhD) and then go home and prevent Ebola from getting out of hand in their home countries. They run labs that now, because of their education, won’t have security leaks. They end up the Minister of Health and have the tools to advocate for enough funding for health, so the country needs less aid.

There are not a whole lot of Americans going into public health. It pays poorly and Trump just eviscerated the field.

My Harvard roommate was Canadian and is now a top doctor at a top medical center in the U.S.

Midwest 9%
Central 2%

International 18%

Now do graduate students. They're far more important to university rankings, because they're the ones who do all of the real research.

Don't blame them. Why would they want to stay in this crumbling country when they could have amazing experiences abroad.

If I had known where we’d be now, I’d have forced my kids to go to college abroad, so we could get access to healthcare and other freedoms.

Harvard is a private school!!!!!!!! They can choose to educate whoever they want!!!!!

They seem pretty reliant on public money for a "private" school.

They aren’t receiving money to operate; they are receiving money to perform services.

They aren’t “reliant” at all.

MAGAs are so fcking dumb.

I've only voted for democrats since Gore, but thanks.

Same. Agree with you as a Dem.

There are a lot of us democrats here who think US colleges and universities have gone too far with international admissions. Reign it back a smidge. Not to 0, that's draconian. But 3-6% seems right?
The politics behind this issue are not worth democrats fighting. Its a losing PR battle.

10% makes sense to me. Some graduate programs are SO heavily international. My niece was rejected from a flagship program in her home state that is 50% international. That's not right.

I don't have the right to attend a university in China or India or even Europe before a native citizen in those locales.

WHY IS THIS SO HARD FOR YOU ALL TO UNDERSTAND

But you do have the right. The country doesn't matter student should study where they please. Why is it so hard for YOU to understand?

I don't think so. Just new students banned.

It's May. Those accepted students have likely turned down offers from other universities. Trump is doing such damage to American academia. It will be hard to attract the best and the brightest if they have comparable offers from schools in countries without idiots as President.

This is just like the tariffs. Markets can adjust if policies are changed in a thoughtful and predictable way. But if Trump just cuts students off overnight who have already accepted offers, he's going to be damaging the ability of American universities to attract the best overseas students for generations. Why fork out your family's life savings to attend a school that can kick you out at any moment if the President changes his mind about something.

States could potentially dictate this for their public universities but the federal government has no business dictating this to private universities.

The politics behind this are 100% worth fighting. We shouldn’t allow a tyrant to fck around with our national research.

Trump’s petty retaliations will only hurt Americans. Not the institutions that he’s targeting.

Neither one of you is a Dem. You're too dumb to be.

When you are so myopic, you get a blowout like last November. Democrats need to read the room. This political issue has legs.
You can fight the cerebral fight and drown in the minutiae or see the writing on the wall.
The sentiment in this country has changed.
Adapt or die.

NOPE. I refuse to let the Dems dumb me down, just like I refuse MAGA idiocy. It's a shame you can't see that.

then we will continue to lose, and wonder how? why? the writing is on the wall.

Perhaps if she spent 10-12 hours a day on school work like the international kids do, she wouldn't be in this position. I'm sure she looked cute in her cheerleading outfit though.
