Are the ivies overrated? Perhaps too much coddling?

I pay for my kid’s Cornell tutor bc the drop in hours for the school provided one are packed.

That’s not even remotely true…especially for finance.

Agree. The people on this board are low level back office idiots.

'I believe Ivy League candidates are over valued, and they frequently have a higher than real opinion of themselves,' one C-suite-level respondent wrote. 'Entry-level job candidates should be 'eager to learn, have no ego or be ‘stuck-up’ because of the school they attended,' said another.

So if America’s favor is turning away from its most elite private schools, where are employers, students and parents looking instead? For the second year, Forbes New Ivies has selected 10 outstanding public universities and 10 top private schools that are attracting the best and the brightest, and graduating students that are outpacing most Ivy Leaguers in the eyes of employers"

Never thought of Ivies, with maybe the exception being Dartmouth, as coddling. I would envision the "nurturing" and "caring" SLACs so many are fond of fall into coddling terroritory.

LACs don’t “coddle.” More focus on the part of the faculty means more assessments and less ChatGPT.

Ivies are overrated relative to their application counts and hype, but they are still fantastic. Students will get more focus from faculty than they would at huge privates or publics, but not as much as at LACs.

I don't understand what people here mean when coddling other than good, quality pedagogy. Small, intensive courses isn't coddling-that's just an education.

Hilarious that people think the Ivies coddle. Where on earth did you get that idea from? The movies?

Original post hiring managers "pointed to graduates’ attitudes and lack of humility". Now that I would believe.

Back office idiots in a Russian-sponsored troll farm in Bangladesh.

We don’t recruit from Ivies (Fortune 500 company). All my GMs (engineering) came from state flagships GT, Illinois etc. I attended a flagship too.

The worst boss I ever had went to Harvard Undergrad.

Ivies aside from Cornell aren’t very interested in engineering. Makes sense.
