My son didn’t try out so maybe don’t make assumptions? I was just curious about the timing and what info might trickle out in that time. Like say if “WLC is folding” poster does really know something. Just about everything that has transpired with WLC over the past year has leaked by parents or other people in the know

Loudoun Knights season is on and they're staying at Ion for the long term. Ion will be expanding to 4 rinks. They'll be having tryouts for 14/16/18u at the same time as other their 2 teams in the region.

I think it's great that both teams get to stay where they are long term. Especially, for the kids in that local area.

Given the multiple debts, lawsuit by one set of investors, and questionable financial practices by the owners, anyone else wondering if this deal sounds too good to be true? Add in, buyers/investors would need to conduct significant due diligence digging through questionable financials.

I would assume all debts are settled with the sale because that's the only way that woman was even willing to sell.

Moving to Ion was the worst thing that Club did. They were a much better organization when they played out of Medstar. Centrally located. Attracted families with resources for AAA hockey. If someone from the DMV has to drive 50 minutes to get to a crappy rink then the decision to go away or drive 2 hours for a better team and organization becomes a viable option. Moving to the St James was the right move for them. They should have done everything in their power to make that work. You cannot have a sustainable program in a sh*tty rink. Haymarket is crap and Ion is literally disintegrating. Any investor who would consider investing in Ion at this point must like trying to lose money.

From what I've heard many age groups have only had 20-30 kids out for tryouts. Sounds like people are mostly done with the WLC messiness.

That sounds like a program that should fold. You can't build a competitive AAA team when you have such few options when building a team.

WLC and TM don't help themselves by doing so much recruiting and signing kids to contracts even before tryouts begin; they miss a lot of talent that way because families know this and don't bother tryout out.

Oh come on. There is simply NOT enough talent in the DMV to field even one nationally relevant AAA team at most age levels let alone 2. The fact that parents are going to sign their kids up to play at WLC despite getting completely jerked around until the last minute is unbelievable. Like are you that desperate to say your kid plays AAA hockey? Anyone in the real hockey world looking at these teams realizes immediately how awful most of them are save one or two good players who wind up leaving because thus area cannot sustain them. But hey, they will always find parents willing to buy the dream so I guess more power to them.

I suspect the owners were laundering money. Ion will be a data center in a year or two.

The program may not be folding but all of the decent players are leaving to play elsewhere because they're done with the BS. It's safe to assume WLC teams will all drop in the rankings next season compared to previous years.

** There are at least two different groups of investors with lots of money invested. Also, the owners failed to pay charities, employees, and vendors. Not saying the deal won’t happen, but the payoff would have to be pretty big.

This type of deal usually takes more than a week or two, especially to complete the financial review and paperwork. So one has to ask, who is saying the deal is done already? Is it the new unknown investors or the less than credible owners? Again, just seems too good to be true.
