Great! Traffic is picking up in DC, we need the space/streets. That "plaza" was always an annoyance for every drive going through it.

It's on the surface of the road. Roads are under the purview of the Department of Transportation. They can legitimately demand whatever they want on that. It's the exact same power, but one level higher, that DDOT has been using to push all their pet projects. Heck, that's how it got painted in the first place.

And why end there? Just get rid of the Holocaust museum and African American museum and Native American museum while we are at it if tax payers do not need to pay for these things. Completely wipe out any exhibit related to historical injustices.
