DC's Black Lives Matter Plaza to be renamed after GOP rep introduces bill

If you're not sure why anyone would feel the need to remind society at large that Black lives also matter, try reading some news, history, or sociology.

However. It would have been insane to fight on this point and risk the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars of federal transportation funding. So I'm glad the District is backing down in advance from a confrontation that would have ended badly and not have been worth the battle.

Here comes the woke white lady to explain to the rest of us heathens what some ridiculous progressive slogan is REALLY supposed to mean. It's not 2020 any more, and no one has the time nor the patience for this sort of nonsense, so give it a rest.

Interesting! Hundred of million dollars are more important than reminding society at large that Black lives also matter.

This was one of the concessions Bowser made to Trump when she went to Mar a Lago to kiss the ring.

Great! Traffic is picking up in DC, we need the space/streets. That "plaza" was always an annoyance for every drive going through it.

Smells like blackmail.

Maybe repaint that on the plaza.

You wish it will be "repainted" that is the language that Bowser uses to fool naive people and avoid a huge outcry, but the Bill clearly says "remove"

"U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde, a Republican from Georgia, introduced a bill on Monday that would withhold certain funds from the District if BLM Plaza wasn't removed."

Why Bowser and her supporters are not fighting this back. Are they implying that black lives are less important than federal money?

Thanks for sharing the racist a-hole interpretation of "BLM". You are probably anti"CRT" and anti"DEI" as well.

I mean, I am!! Anti all those things. We need to move past this divisive rhetoric and help unite people. So tired of it. You woke creeps brought us Trump 2.0!!!! This whole shtshow is your fault. If you had any common sense you could have foreseen this!!

Here we go again. Rather than defending what is clearly a performative stunt, how about we actually do something to make lives better. How about, for example, we actually locked people for committing violent crime in DC, given the overwhelming proportion of their victims are black?

BEAUTIFUL!!! Trump is showing who is the boss in DC. Next in his agenda, removing all the BS bike lanes.

Black Lives Matter Plaza was a stupid performative stunt from the beginning. Now that everyone agrees that violent criminals should go to prison regardless of race, it's time to get rid of that garish street painting from a bygone moment in time.

Couldn't agree more. It was a time when the city was mired in lefty groupthink. Not unlike how we're mired in MAGA groupthink at the moment.

Both CRT and DEI are inherently racist.

They are reactions to exclusion. If racism and other forms of exclusion (disability is a part of DEI) didn't exist, they wouldn't have been needed.

the way to stop racism is to stop being racist, not by elevating and glorifying one race over others. If it was "All Lives Matter Plaza", nobody would consider it to be a racist dog whistle pandering to a culture of grievance.

Whew, you folks are still going with the all lives matter thing? I thought that these days it was only on gear you won at the county fair. Amazing!
