The US will NOT be a place where international tourists will want to visit for the next 4 years.

Let’s hope that’s true but I doubt it. They clog up everything.

I agree. I mean it stinks for the park employees but it’s kind of crazy that people are stressing about this of all things.

I mean I have a sibling at NIH who is almost certainly going to lose their job but is also devastated by this. Take our jobs, take the places we go to get away from it all. It's totally psychological devastation.

Am I the only one who thinks the parks will be fine? They are still hiring the normal seasonal employees. I think it’s too soon to tell - I actually think most people will still go and it will be fine. The hotels and food are run by third parties anyway.

Sorry, I'm jumping to the discussion, having done no research, but what about privatizing the national park operations and keeping the government-owned land? There is endless demand for Park experiences, which I expect will be forever true. Rooms at the Awhwahnee (privately operating on national park land) start at over $500 per night; we paid quite a bit more, and it was worth it.

Have you been to a seasonal theme park in the last 10 years by any chance? Well, I have. It’s obvious the ones that stripped their year round workforce. Everything looks crummier, runs crummier, customer service is crummier. And those are just some rides on a few acres. Natural parks require a bit more care.

I was at GCNP last year and it was a hot mess even then. No real service so doubt it will get worse.

Exactly what service do you need at a national park? Take your photos, go on a hike, leave. Who goes to a national park for customer service?

Someone to clean those nasty toilets. More bus drivers since you can’t park anywhere.

The people I know who work seasonally at National Parks have had their postings put on hold. Rangers have been fired. The Third Parties are contractors, aren't they? Those have likely been cancelled.

People to collect garbage. People to police parking so roads aren't blocked. People to check reservations so the park isn't overrun by too many people per day. Emergency responders for when things go bad (inevitable with millions visiting the parks every year).

It's wild how much people have become numbed to the work going on behind the scenes. Its because it generally works pretty well, they don't even notice it or care.

I’ve traveled all over the world. Many tourist destinations in other countries are littered with garbage, the lines are 5 hours to get tickets, there is no food/drink. It’s sad. That’s what our NP will be like. Thanks Drumpy. SAD

I’ve got a national park trip planned for spring break. In addition to everything listed here, I’m also worried about a government shutdown.
