Most Americans have some sense of the ethics of the DOJ prior to this last 9 months - they saw the last president’s son prosecuted by the DOJ in rather embarrassing fashion for charges they are almost never brought against other citizens and saw that the president didn’t interfere at all with that prosecution.

They see clearly that a once venerable American institution is being desecrated. Even in this new age of MAGA values, they can still see a bridge too far.
