Wait, what? AG Pam Bondi just “charged” NY Gov. Kathy Hochul and Letitia James

She doesn't seem to understand law. Her law school, Stetson University College of Law, is ranked #98 in law schools. She's a member of the Florida bar, where they take the bar exam in crayon.

#98 ?

Under which system; USNWR ratings? If so, Stetson is tied with American University’s law school, which is excellent.

The USNWR rankings are utterly meaningless.

How is it crumbling? Being an illegal alien you have broken the law by entering the country. If you are a criminal, that is even worse. Why would a city want to protect people who broke the law? The federal govt has full authority to dictate border security and immigration. A city and state do not have the ability to decline federal laws.

So this is clear cut. A sanctuary city/state violates federal law.

No problem here.

Imagine if cites all over the country could decide to go against federal law for other issues. There would be chaos.

While I hate all things Trump, if NY does have a law on the books that notifies immigrants when federal authorities request their records, that could be seen as obstruction. The feds have a lawful right to enforce immigration. States don't have to help at all. Zero. But they cannot obstruct.

How is serving notice of legal action "obstruction"?

Do people not have a right to know who is peeking at their personal information?

I said "could" be considered obstruction. Depends on the circumstances. But if the feds are conducting a legitimate investigation, they can request certain records for "investigative purposes." They generally need a subpoena or warrant, but not always. They could ask for your cell phone records, for example, thinking that you are distributing fentanyl across state lines. And want to see the numbers you call and cell towers you are pinging off of. And so on. If the cell phone company notifies you of that, you are going to be able to alter your behavior so that it's less likely you get caught. Same with driver's records (and addresses!).

The problem is, New York's law provided a really easy way to track down undocumented immigrants. An unintended negative consequence of a well-meaning idea.

Apparently DOJ has brought some kind of civil action about immigration - like what they did against Illinois I guess. But no one's been "charged."

You are a fool.

Nope just pointing how MAGAs don’t care about the country, they just want to get back at the libs.

If we didn't care about the country, we would have let you continue to destroy it.

Privacy Protections
"The law provides a number of privacy protections that limit data sharing, including to agencies that primarily enforce immigration laws, and requires disclosure to the license holders when immigration enforcement agencies request data from DMV."

Upon receiving a request for such records or information from an agency that primarily enforces immigration law, the commissioner shall, no later than three days after such request, notify the individual about whom such information was requested, informing such individual of the request and the identity of the agency that made such request.

I think you MAGAs will regret that Trump opened the door for revenge politics fairly soon.

What goes around comes around, and let's be honest, we're smarter than you and not as dirty.

Poor DOJ. There’s a lot of dedicated public servants there who are going to be asked to do things that strain the bounds of credibility and ethics

Do you realize how many attorney have resigned? Whole sections. “Because Pam Nondi told me to do it” does not protect your law license (or your soul) if you aren’t fully truthful to the Court.

The Constitution quite clearly delegated this to the Feds, and it isn’t a responsibility that can be re-designated to states with a magic wand. This will fail in court.

Next!

Everyone competent at DOJ has been fired or resigned. Turns out you can fudge facts in federal court and remain a lawyer in good standing. Lawyers work hard for their licenses. They tend to draw the time at things that will get them sanctioned and disbarred.

IF they do, the thing that doesn’t get laughed out of Court is challenging the law. “Charging” the governor is insane. As in the Court order dismissing this read. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. And LOL. Thanks for pick me up. I needed a good laugh. Dismissed.
