My headspace for the next 4 years

I don't think it's about idiots choosing Trump as much as how devastating the current landscape of US is on so many fronts.

If you want to blame someone, blame the political party of the Democrats for not rising to the occasion - how hard is it to beat a convicted felon with no self control? I had higher expectations for these "smart" professionals, I have zero expectations for the regular Joe. People vote for what they think they need. It's not that people are dumb, it's that people are desperate for change and hope.

No, it’s both. Desperation leads to making bad decisions. They’ve done something really dumb.

My plan now is to just sit back and watch (sometimes with popcorn) - at least when I feel like tuning in. Since this is a DC based board I assume many of you, like me, understand and have concerns about the democratic norms he upends and the disruption he brings and you do not take our system of government for granted. But at this point it seems the American people - or about half of them - want this disruption.

My state of mind is to focus on what is right in front of me - family, friends and local community. I will watch with detached interest what public administration reforms, to put it lightly, these next 4 years will bring. What I won't do is freak out, get upset, or worry about every outrageous thing he says or does because in a way that is what drives his power. Plus, I don't want to.

My sense is that there are many who feel the same way. What will be interesting is the MAGA troll response. The owning the libs thing is really 2020 and many have just moved on. It’s like MAGA is almost angry that Trump won and got all of congress. It will be difficult for them with no one to blame and with a lot fewer people throwing themselves into the breach.

For example, if he does another Muslim ban, I doubt people will turn out to the airports to protest and vocally stand up for the rights of Muslim Americans. Same if there’s another pandemic from China, the anti-Asian hate will not garner as much sympathy.

^^^ one reason that's likely true is that a lot of the social media froth comes from Russian troll farms. They are going to keep spewing hate, but given that Trump the election and already has the SC, the American MAGAs are satisfied even if their Russian puppetmasters are still itching for a fight.

DP. Sure. So since what they voted for will be better for them, I don't see any problem. They will get just that.

Did you WATCH all the videos of her responding unscripted to anything and everything??! Holy shit, she literally comes across as only an idiot can!

-signed, a liberal democrat woman

She wasn’t running for president in a vacuum. Her opponent thinks Canada has a giant ocean faucet that’s closed and that’s why California doesn’t have enough water, and if we just get Canada to open the faucet, the water will flow “down.” He thinks stoves are the energy used to make donuts. He thinks rising oceans give us more beachfront property. He told his stupid boat battery/shark story because he thinks it makes him look smart — seriously. He admitted during the debate that he still has no plan for healthcare.

Harris giggled, but people voted for Trump because she’s the idiot? That’s absurd.

Meh, Trump’s in charge now. Let’s see what he can do. He said it’d be easy to fix everything so we’ll all just sit back and watch the show.

I plan to help the people who are going to be more impacted that I am, unless they are Trumpers.

Otherwise, I'm done consuming most media because I don't want to hear the latest crappiest thing Cheetolinni is doing. So long Washington Post, it's not like you report on much local anyway.

This exactly. Lowest bar imaginable for Trump but the woman was too happy.

Rs love flinging bullcr@p.

Less than 1/4 of the country voted for the orange POS.

Their votes had nothing to do with OP. They foolishly believed the bullcr@p that the Rs were pushing.

DP, but what the hell are you talking about? PP voted based on the policies she thought would be the most beneficial to vulnerable populations. The electorate rejected those policies. They don’t want her “help,” so she’s accepting that and agreeing to let more than half the voters get what they wanted without any interference from her. You’re saying that because she’s backing off after more than half of voters spurned her idea of help, she’s the one at fault here?

DP. Probably not since everything will be solved under Trump. So I guess we'll just go traveling.

You need therapy, OP. Why does who is in the White House affect your mental health at all?

What is fascinating is how they missed so many obvious signs that they never had the mandates they thought they had for several years. The election had been very thing to do with Dem overreach on identity politics and nothing about Trump. Yes, he is a horrible person, but people already knew that. That is how egregious people felt those politics were. Sure, they like Obamacare but they hate being told things like xyz so you must vote Dem otherwise you’re a self hating so and so, or MAGA, or racist, or misogynistic, or whatever.

Voters want balance and that’s why the same district will vote AOC and Trump.

I’m not happy about some things Trump will do, but the Dem meltdowns are entertaining. I will spend the next four years thinking, I told you so. I have very little empathy for people like OP.

Republicans are the ones that drove their campaigns with identity politics. Just watch any of their commercials. Democrats talked about the economy and body autonomy. Enough with the gaslighting.

🙄 so much „I know you are, but what am I” crap. If we can’t recognize and accept our weaknesses, we continue to lose.
