My headspace for the next 4 years

This is my goal as well. I hope not to be one of the groups impacted by him, and while I normally care a lot about everyone else, I am making not caring about anyone else my actual goal for the next 4 years. I know that's terrible, but I can't handle the stress of that plus worrying about my own family. Plus, it didn't do any good at all last time. I'm trying to accept that I am really powerless in this world and can't even help myself much less anyone else.

If I can get through 4 years (and if it actually ends in 4 years) without my family being personally impacted, then I will be very relieved and grateful.

We have one life.

This guy consumed us for 10 years. That is done as of right now. It was all wasted time because me and my family, personally, were fine.

If he fixes it all, great. If it all goes to hell, well, at least I will live my life well until then.

I don't think it's about idiots choosing Trump as much as how devastating the current landscape of US is on so many fronts.

If you want to blame someone, blame the political party of the Democrats for not rising to the occasion - how hard is it to beat a convicted felon with no self control? I had higher expectations for these "smart" professionals, I have zero expectations for the regular Joe. People vote for what they think they need. It's not that people are dumb, it's that people are desperate for change and hope.

Sorry--it is that many of them are "dumb". These are the same "idiots" who in 2012+ were excited to say they finally had healthcare options for first time, yet hate "Obamacare". Because they are too dumb to realize their healtcare/the ACA IS OBAMACARE. The immigrants who think "trump isn't talking about deporting me, he can't be, we are good hardworking people". Ok, so you voted for him and now you will learn if he wants to deport you (hint: unless you are from Europe he probably wants to deport you and doesn't really care about you).

So you are desperate for change and you definately got change. Hope you enjoy it and it doesn't destroy you too much. In 5 years you might finally realize that the economy in 2024 was recovering from the Pandemic and that in reality the US managed the recovery much better than almost every other country.

Well, guess you should have voted and campaigned harder for her? Most groups impacted by Trump VOTED FOR HIM

Because they believe the lies he told. People not smart enough to realize much of what he plans to do will negatively impact him. We tried to tell them. They think we are condescending and chose to vote for him. That is their issue now. Quite frankly, if they are too stupid to vote in their own best interests, we can no longer help them. FAFO

The world has always been full of stupid people. Smart people used to make their decisions for them. Now they can make their own, and they're usually not good ones. They get screwed either way.

That is why they are either a member of the cult (and too far gone) or voting for their finances (hold my nose and know I will be richer and the major other issues won't affect me directly) or racists/mysoginist. If it Harris was a white man, they would be president elect IMO. Says a lot about our country on so many levels. Just like Hillary, she is very qualified, but apparently many are not ready for that in a female

OP here - to be clear - I DID NOT VOTE FOR TRUMP! All of you folks who keep reiterating how dumb and terrible those who did vote Trump - you are the ones who caused this mess! Who wants to be told they are an idiot repeatedly? Do you love it when GOP refers to Dems as morons?? I can't believe you do.

NO - people flock to Trump not because they are idiots but because they have nothing to inspire them to think to be better than what he espouses. He is very very good with certain types of people. As big a buffoon as he is, he has a certain talent and appeal for talking straightforwardly. It is exactly because team Kamala 100000% sent the message about how terrible Trump is v how she compared to him, that people ended up voting for him.

All of you on this thread who want to accuse T100% of Trump voter of being clueless and horrible people - guess what? They are ALL AROUND, does this really make your day knowing that MORE people are pro Trump than not? If the world is this horrible you ought to simply leave it - why are you even here? And definitely leave the US because clearly, being around all these idiots has to suck! What kind of perspective is this that gets you through the day - your lives must be more miserable than all the idiots you call.

As for me, I know definitely that there are those who are wrong to believe Trump because they are less educated and can't think for themselves. However, I believe also that a lot of these Trump voters voted for him because they hope he may give them a better future because what they have today is not working for them. I don't know that they are right but it was a vote based on hope, no matter how misguided as it were their motivation is. That's my point - this election was won not because more than 1/2 this country are idiots but because many people are so unhappy they were desperate enough to vote for someone like Trump.

Your points are well stated. However I have a real problem with the narrative that the working class is suffering and just wanted the hope provided by Trump. Yes, there are near-minimum wage workers who are really struggling in America. Some are drowning in medical debt and student debt. But that's not the majority of Trump voters. A lot of them can afford new, big pickup trucks. Vacations in Florida. Fishing boats. Condos and second homes. They may be struggling, but more from consumer debt than any real hardship.

What motivated them was greed. Trump and the Republicans offer them an endless stream of tax cuts and handouts, with absolutely no responsibility for paying for larger societal needs. No expenditures for public transportation, the environment, public health, scientific research, or any of the other obligations that make us more than a 3rd world country. MAGA are simply greedy and selfish, and do not appreciate or understand how civilization itself functions, and how it depends on a concept of the "common good".

I'll be donating even more $$ to my local democratic candidates up for re-election in the coming years since so many things are going to be "given" back to the states to decide. Specially, I'll be giving more to make sure VA does not get another Republican governor next year.

A vote for Trump is not based on "Hope for better".
