Ignoring our SA schools is what’s inequitable. No more option school funding till neighborhood schools are fixed.

South Arlington schools were actually the first to be completely rebuilt / renovated since APS overhauled the CIP program over 30 years ago:
- A renovated Gunston Middle School after reopening in 1994
- A brand new Kenmore Middle School
- Completely renovated Hoffman Boston
- Completely new Washington-Lee (Washington-Liberty) campus

These are all schools that serve a majority (over 50%) of students from South Arlington.

I believe the next schools that are in dire need of a complete rebuild or historically sensitive renovation include, TJ, Taylor, and Barrett. One of those serves a majority South Arlington population.

Tell me which part of the county serves the greatest number of students. Go on. Tell me.

The beautiful, new W-L Annex just opened to serve the growing South Arlington population. Next up would likely be TJ.

You’re acting like they spruced up Wakefield. W-L is in NA, lady.

The shiny new Wakefield building is less than 10 years old and just got a fancy new tech lab from Amazon.

The seats at W-L (and Tech) help offset the overcrowding at WHS.

TJ is on the list. That’s why they are doing the feasibility study.

Some people just like to complain.

Well, I also think a lot of people (particularly parents of younger kids) don't see the bigger picture because they don't know what they don't know. And there is also a lot to keep track of at APS and the information isn't always well organized.

Yes, for some of them it's really hard to figure out how to sign up to speak at a SB meeting.

LOL. W-L primarily serves SA. /s

Does it?

Yes. Since the late 1990s. The majority of the student body at W-L lives in S Arlington, which is defined as south of Route 50. Just look at the even number zip codes in the student directory.

It’s a feasibility study and there is no guarantee for how or when APS will renovate it. Kadera and CCPTA were against the vote that prioritized MPSA for this site. And Mary almost lost her chance to be chair when the knives came out for her.

W-L also draws from far fewer N Arlington neighborhoods in 22207, 22205, 22201, and 22203 since the 2018 boundary changes from W-L to Yorktown. So yes it primarily serves South Arlington, which is also where the student-age population is growing.

No W-L does not primarily serve S. Arlington. It primarily serves N. Arlington. https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/sites/57/2024/08/HS_Boundaries_SY24_25_V2.pdf

I don't believe that's true.

Correct.
Most of SA is districted to Wakefield.

Funny how APE is silent on this...

I’m voting no because the majority of this bond is going to a new building for an option school. Just like the last one.

Seats are seats. The students are APS students.

A population cliff is here. Always behind the 8 ball.

They didn't need to spruce up Wakefield, they tore down the old Wakefield and built a BRAND NEW high school not all that long ago.

TJ is on the list, except that won't go anywhere if the APEs and Rs get their way and the bond doesn't pass.

When did they build a new Wakefield? I’m new to the area but have used their pool quite a bit. It seemed a little run down to me?
