They will probably make the cut off July 1...
99.99999% of school districts in the country have a cut off after July 1. |
False, the decision has already been made to stay BY. See I can make unsubstantiated claims to. |
You misread my post. He started school when he was supposed to according to the rules of the State. It hasn't hurt him academically, socially or soccer-wise. However, this change would force him to play with kids in the grade below him unless he plays up. Now, on ability that shouldn't be an issue. However, if the club or governing body prohibits that, then he's screwed. |
There has never been a rule that prohibits playing up. Why would going back to the SY age cut off change that? |
DP. Some clubs don’t let kids play up if there’s a team for their own age group. We have seen it at ours. Kids who started playing U9 at age 7 had to drop down to play U9 for a second year when they were 8, and stay with that team moving forward. No matter if they had the ability to play with the top team of older kids. People have left the club over it. |
People leave clubs for other ALL the time. Playing up is not against the rules so that is a choice they can make for themselves. That does not mean they are 'trapped'. Currently a trapped player does not have a choice because it is against the rules to play down. |
Can’t wait to hear where you got this info. |
Nobody is trapped if they can play with their grade. Right now Fall birthday kids are not allowed to play with their correct grade so they’re trapped. With the change nobody will be trapped. |
Wait suddenly the SY people want sources? I thought we could all just make things up and come to a collective agreement on what's true. |
Except the school districts that start Sept 1 or any date after Aug 1. Oh and home school. and private school kids. But don't let detailed get in the way. |
That's why they would go with an 8/1 cutoff instead of 9/1. Don't let facts get in your way. |
There may still be some trapped players but it will be reduced by a lot. Going from 4 months worth of trapped players to 1 month or less is a significant improvement. No solution is perfect but can we at least agree that having less trapped players is a good thing? |
No, because I don't think trapped players are an issue. Especially on higher level competitive teams. If you want to play SY rec with friends from school fine. |
All that means is your kid is not a trapped player so it isn't an issue for you. |
| my DD is born in June 2010 plays u15 but is a 8th grader not a 9th grader (started school late in K) yet. with this new rule can she try out to u15 again next year which means changing teams? |
