Exactly, and the honest answer, even though it’s the boring one like you said, is it really does just depend on the kid. |
| Announcement coming from US Club soccer today |
Are you talking about the women's side? Because I've read that 30% of DI spots for soccer on the men's side are international players. And from my observation, many of them aren't your typical 18 year old freshman. Some have played professionally in Europe (without contracts) and are 21 year old or more freshman. |
Higher percentage in mens vs women's for sure. But those numbers might be skewed a bit as they include kids that have been here going to school and not fresh off the plane. Additionally, women D1 soccer also has almost twice as many teams as men and, obviously, Internationals are not as many due to not putting an emphasis on the women's side. |
This is inaccurate. The UK system splits on pathway at U14 |
Source? Mine is FA which clearly states 8/31 cut off through u18. But you may have a better source than the FA……. https://www.thefa.com/~/media/Files/TheFAPortal/governance-docs/rules-of-the-association/standard-code-of-rules-for-youth-competitions.ashx |
What is the source for this statement? |

Announcement coming any minute now |
Or maybe tomorrow! Definitely hold your breath. |
Or maybe the day after tomorrow. Are people so desperate for news that they’re relaying rumors about future to happen rumors? Sad |
| You can't find a more dysfunctional sport on the planet than anything to do with US soccer. |
In this instance it’s not US Soccer that’s caused the issue is Pay to Play and college soccer. If these two things didn’t exist there would be no issues. Pay to play makes clubs break out as many teams into as many tiers as possible. This allows clubs to maximize the amount of money they can charge parents. College Soccer creates a limbo league that’s not quite pro but somehow players still get paid in scholarships and nil. These things don’t exist in other parts of the world. Take them away and SY makes no sense. It will be interesting to see what happens when NCAA finally blows up. |

They wouldn't be playing down. They'd be playing the correct school age. If your kid is September, they've currently been playing kids up to 8 months older and a grade up. With the change your kid probably repeats what ever age group they've been playing and goes from being one of the younger players to one of the older players and playing with their school age group. It's just a change of perspective. If they're good enough to then be asked to play up then they're being asked to play with kids a full year older and a full grade older. |
