They are constantly hiring...then firing... it makes no sense.

Validates my decision to laugh at all the Amazon headhunters. I don't know why any person with desirable skills would sign up to work for such a dysfunctional company.

Its the survival of the fittest. Its like anywhere it depends on your team and manager. You go because of the pay and it used to be because of the flexibility.

Anyone here at HQ2 not happy?

This is completely unfair!

People have lives you know, Amazon. I mean, how are people supposed to take care of routine tasks like laundry? Preparing family meals? Who is supposed to provide childcare while we are at the office??!?

Amazon: please reconsider this inhumane and cruel directive

I think you don’t know anything about history or the plight of workers across the globe. And you sound like a spoiled princess.

Not necessarily true. Husband made the jump from another FAANG I think during pandemic when hiring was going crazy and got a big bump in salary after getting passed over for the usual politics. Not because he was a bad performer. He was not.

He’s still making quite a lot more than he was making at his previous FAANG company, which is supposed to treat their employees amazingly but actually was a dysfunctional sshow.

Honestly, they are all kind of evil, but those golden handcuffs! It makes it hard to go to other places. He’s worked at a few. I’d say Microsoft was the nicest and chillest but paid the least. Amazon seems to be the roughest in terms of office politics.

I remind him, and he knows, that he makes way more than most people, and that is a combination of talent and ambition and luck. Amazon is evil but he still is getting paid a lot of money and his work life balance is not bad, as some people here are saying.

I assume you don’t work. That’s the key to Amazon. It works you like big law but pays way way less.

I work but don't make NEARLY as much money. The money I make is basically "fun" money comparatively. But I have followed his career, and I do think that probably depends on the team. He really doesn't have bad work/life balance. He used to be in sales, and there was more freedom but more stress with quotas. He is definitely 9-5, and that's with time to go out for a walk or do errands, etc....It's not much different than the other FAANGs he worked at in terms of work/life balance. None have really been bad. Maybe it's the team.

That is not a normal schedule at all. Mine works at about 7:30 or so and varies on when it’s over between 6-7 usually sometimes with later calls and always checking in things.

I don’t know what to say. Teams vary. My husband gets very good performance reviews. I feel like that happens at all big companies. Some teams are more stressful than others.

Be careful even with good reviews, they will still focus you and get rid of you.

That’s how amazon is set up. Even their 401k takes 3 years to vest.

That's normal with most companies.

It's their corporate model - hire to fire. Their business model has them firing or laying off 10-15% of white collar workers each year. If you fully vest at Amazon it means you're pretty damn good at your job.

Its not that hard to do.

It seems more like whether their randomly changing policies are suitable for you or not. I'll never work there.

Ok, no worries, especially as you may not make it through a loop.

I don't intend to work there, but I am curious as to how they get rid of people with good reviews.

I will say that I saw a "60 Minutes" segment on Bezos that totally turned me off to Bezos/Amazon. He has weird intense habits, such summoning people to a meeting and then making them quietly sit there and read without saying anything. Seemed like a control freak.

I thought it was foolish for people to move away from their Jobs back in 2020 because they thought remote work would be permanent.

It’s also foolish of Amazon office workers to comment on Facebook, etc. with complaints about childcare because they are precisely why there is a push to return office, how can you effectively work when you’re also taking care of your babies and toddlers?

They were working at home long before Covid. Only a select few have babies and toddlers.
. I have to assume it’s more than a select few. The only person l know who works for Amazon did not get childcare for her toddler well after things opened up after COVID.

They have to give a % of bad reviews so if you have a supervisor change or if you change positions - if you change positions you will most likely be the one to get the bad review if its review cycle. Bezos no longer runs Amazon so people need to stop blaming him. This is the new leadership. It was better under Bezos. Remember Bezos only really controlled the top people so its really not relevant to most people. Your direct 2-3 supervisiors are the biggest concern. If you have a good supervisor it makes a world of differnce, like with any job. Amazon is a good place with the right team and supervisor.

Big issues are the commute - will put tons more cars on the road and cost between tolls, gas and parking. They don't don't have enough desks and parking at some buildings. And, loss of productivity as many work those hours they'd be commuting, so either you will work during your commute, work after you get home or just not be as productive.

Sigh, the PP was obviously satire. Get a grip.
