He was absolutely right about that. Parents were out of control and should have stayed in their lane. Our schools are still suffering because parents bought into that bullshit about how they should be able to micromanage what happens in schools.

He won the election for Youngkin. Idiotic school boards in northern Virginia seem to be the best path for a Republican to win state wide. FCPS is doing their part by making noises about boundary changes that would go into effect the same school year as the next general election

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I’m looking at you, FCPS. This election is too important for you to F up with your pet projects. It’s time to put a public lid on that boundary change nonsense before it becomes any more of a distraction than it already has.

Fairfax county residents were warned about the Dem-dominated plan for nuclear boundary changes in 2019. The school board backed off a little and instead of delivering them a stinging rebuke for trying to sneak it past the public and lying about their motivations, voters rewarded them with 100% control.

If the Dems don't go ahead with equity boundaries while they have 100% control what is even the point. Equity is at the center of everything they do, presidency and governorship be damned.

Local politicians trying to boost their own blue state credentials are putting the bigger ticket at risk. They need to knock it off.

This “it’s now or never for equity” approach is foolish. It’s not about whether Fairfax voters continue to vote for a democratic school board. Fairfax will remain blue no matter what. But “remaining blue” is not enough for Spanberger to win. The boundary issue is a big deal and it will move enough votes to matter given the trends elsewhere in the state.

This is a real issue that presents a real risk to folks who have invested in Spanberger and her future success. Wake. Up.

Winsome-Sears won on anger over education last time. It is not a new playbook for her team. If FCPS pushes on with this nonsense it will be yet another “own-goal” by the democrats.

The ambitions of local politicians who could not win at the next level will not be permitted to tank the race for Richmond. Those who put their own career goals ahead of the party and cost the democrats the governor’s race are putting a hard ceiling on their long-term support from folks who matter.

There is no reason to gift the republicans this issue. We need to see some public action taken by certain individuals to put this issue to rest NOW, before it becomes THE issue. Statements that public concerns are “just speculation” and folks should “wait and see” are NOT enough.

The tide is rising quickly. Waiting until June to reveal some “small changes” is not getting out in front of the issue.

Seriously, get a clue. How hard is it to say “we are pausing our review in view of ongoing budgetary concerns” and pick the whole thing up again in two years, after we take back Richmond. Doing this now puts YOUR career goals ahead of the party. KNOCK IT OFF.

And your "folks who matter" assertion is disgusting. Tell me, who are these "folks who matter" that local politicians need to suck up to or else they will punish the Democrats for....acting like Democrats?

As a parent who has voted 'D' for decades, I can tell you I plan on voting straight 'R' for all the local elections up through Governor due to this whole FCPS rezoning fiasco. Anything to prevent something like this from happening again. The whole process is terrible for everyone involved. They are stating goals without any concrete plans presented in the name of a very nebulous "equity" goal. They've let the community speculate on what they might do for far to long and now everyone is worked up and at each others' throats trying to save themselves. If they had been doing their jobs all along this wouldn't be necessary, and even still a massive move affecting possibly every kid in the county isn't necessary. Plan ahead. Expand the middle schools and transition one period at a time to 6-8. Only make the moves necessary to fix overcrowding while actually working to improve underperforming schools - not just move in kids from somewhere else to get the average test scores up without actually fixing anything for the students who go there.

I hope the governor and even the president come down on them hard for this debacle. It would be the one silver lining to losing at the state and federal level last time.

But will not be the candidate on the ballot. Sorry.

SHE WILL

Will Virginia Republicans actually hold a real primary in which everyone can vote this time? Because last time she tried to run they didn’t.

“Everyone” shouldn’t vote in a Republican primary, only members of the Republican Party.

That’s not how it works in Virginia. You must be from somewhere else.

I do live in Virginia and I know how it works. I’m just saying it’s wrong for just any old uneducated, uninvolved schmoe to vote in any party primary. If I’m not a member of the Elks Club, should I be allowed to vote for their leadership?

Your analogy is just stupid. Both sides, BOTH, vote in primaries of party’s they don’t generally identify with, it’s a strategy. How did Bratt ever beat Cantor? Republicans also love to completely mix it up and not have a primary at all so they can guarantee their Virginia GOP candidate of choice (which is how Youngkin got the nod and not Amanda Chase).

We don’t register by political party. We don’t have “members”. So what does being a member of the Elks have to do with anything? Nothing. This means I can vote in any one party primary. Too bad so sad if you don’t like it.

Let me guess, you’re zoned for Forestville Elementary.

I’m unclear on what you think the governor can do about your poor choices in real estate.

There's your problem, right there. You don't ACTUALLY care about equity. You are fine to push things, but not "too far" whether its seeking equity in grading, discipline, college admissions, sentencing, food access, etc. What you are about is your identification with your PARTY. How can you not see that the POINT of your PARTY is that like-minded individuals organize to make the changes that they BELIEVE IN. This isn't a community sports league where you just want to stick it to the other team and win a GAME.

WHY put off REAL change for two years? Remember, childhood is short. There are thousands of children in Fairfax schools right now.

It's not the responsibility of the Fairfax Democrats to cower in fear of the consequences of acting on THE BELIEFS AND PRINCIPLES THAT BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER IN THE FIRST PLACE. The consequences of acting on principles of fairness, diversity and acceptance are BETTER SCHOOLS and a BETTER SOCIETY. Fairfax is firmly BLUE. No matter what happens in Richmond, Fairfax should act like it, or else people may as well move to a Republican county.

I sincerely hope you aren’t in a position of power or influence within the local Democratic Party, but I fear that you are. You clearly have zero understanding of how politics and elections work in the year 2025. You are the epitome of the problem Democrats are currently facing and part of why the country is the terrible situation it’s in. Failing to understand the political climate and digging in is a great way to LOSE.

What's the point of the Democrats winning if they are going to be afraid to govern as Democrats[b]? Why are people donating to campaigns, sitting in camp chairs under tents for hours handing out literature and telling their neighbors why they should vote for the democrat? May as well stay home and keep donation money for groceries if that democrat gets in power and then acts wishy washy.

This is totally a ploy to get Ds or Independents to vote for her, or confuse those on the fence for one reason or another. I followed closely, and she is as MAGA as they come. If she is just now 'reinventing herself', it's part of a strategy.

Pausing a divisive, anger-fueling issue for 2 years seems wise for the time being.
Sometimes some things look very different after 2 years. APS (granted, much smaller than FFX) was about to embark on sweeping middle school boundary changes, when they instead decided to do very stringent (in their eyes) residency checks. Turns out 300+ students at just ONE middle school were actually residents in another jurisdiction, even by APS definitions. Problem suddenly solved! Thousands of $$$ saved. Public mayhem averted. Boundary issue was shelved.
I can only imagine what's happening in a system as big as FFX, if they don't enforce any rules.

Meanwhile, some of us FCPS residents think that boundary changes are LONG overdue, and are thrilled to see leaders actually willing to tackle the issue head-on instead of kicking the can down the road again. The county has been stalling on this for years. Doing what is necessary, even if it's not 100% popular, makes think more of the current leadership, not less. The loudest complainers don't speak for all of us.

(But for the record, I also don't think that boundary changes have anything to do with the governor....????)

Over rezoning?

You do realize that school districts all over the world rezone all of the time? You sound ridiculous whining over this “issue”.

WTF do you think the governor is going to do about school rezoning? LOL.

Seriously, get a clue. How hard is it to say “we are pausing our review in view of ongoing budgetary concerns” and pick the whole thing up again in two years, after we take back Richmond. Doing this now puts YOUR career goals ahead of the party. KNOCK IT OFF.

Yes, go ahead and throw away a statewide race when a governor might be one of the only guardrails against Trump. Great startegy.

Keep proving my point that you all are absolutely clueless on how to win elections that matter.

Your assumption is that primaries should be open. I don’t think they should be. My analogy is a good one.
